Most of the sticky threads in various forums are rules of some sort, especially here in ATMB. Start with the registration agreement.
Here is a list of the codes, but not all of them are enabled here.
Welcome!
Hello Kim. Be welcome. Enjoy your stay!
okay, i enabled my avatars, but i still don’t see them; do you guys not use them? also is there any spell-checking ability or should i just type everything in Word first?
We do not use avatars, and the edit window is only five minutes, so preview is your friend.
Welcome! **Skald **is a pretty cool dude, and we look forward to having you around!
I get a red underline on misspelled words in the reply window, but that’s probably Firefox (my browser), not this board.
Welcome to the board! Hope you enjoy your time here.
If you click where it says “Rules” in the blue band at the top of the page, you’ll see our basic “rules of the road.” You don’t have to commit them all to memory or anything like that, but they’ll give you an overview.
If you use Firefox there are several spell checkers for it. If you use IE like I do, I recommend the free tool IESPELL. It works great and has nearly zero impact on the PC. It also provides a quick dictionary right click look up that is great.
Welcome to the Board, make sure you read your husband’s threads, a few should be good for embarrassing* him.
Jim
thx for the welcome, everybody. how do i search for old threads? i don’t see a button anyplace. do i have to go thru google?
also i don’t see any way to edit my posts like ivylass suggested
That’s because you’re still a guest. Guests can’t search or edit. We can help you search for old threads if you let us know what you’re looking for.
i’ll let you know. i thought about looking up my husband’s threads but i have decided that is neurotic.
The easiest way is to click on his profile when you’ve found a post by him and go to his public profile. There should be a link there that’ll let you see “Threads Started By . . .”
I don’t think that’s a feature guests can use, though, as it involves the search function.
Missed my edit window, sorry for the double post.
ETA: (Edited To Add) - The overarching rule is “Don’t be a jerk.”
I’m not a moderator here, of course, but in the forums I’ve mod’ed in the past it’s a very practical rule to avoid having to have court cases for every sock puppet, ban dodger or troll who pops by. Anger fits best in The BBQ Pit, where only death wishes against other posters are verboten. (Some few other things are also prohibited, like implying other posters are on your “Ignore” list and there is a kind of form for a pit, but you’ll pick it up quickly. And posters always pop by and help if you forgot to link to what pissed you off and such)
Games (Video games, sports, board games, pop quizzes and such) go in the Game Room. Culture (Music, film, art - you get the picture) goes in Café Society, questions with an answer go in General Questions, questions without an answer go in Great Debates, MPSIMS is the home to fluff (be it pink and candy-like or dark and depressing), IMHO is where you seek opinions and ATMB is where we test out new things and file serious complaints.
For a good introduction to VB technical feature (how to colour your text, popular tags, smiley shorthands, etc) see CK Dexter Haven’s very useful post here.
