I'm looking to buy an Egyptian Toilet in the US.

Alright, I’m not sure if “Egyptian” is the right word, but Egypt is the only place I’ve been where I’ve seen this type of toilet. It’s not the geometry of it (and it’s definitely not the cleanliness of that one), but it’s the built-in spigot/bidet that I found to be quite awesome.

I’ve seen some cheap and expensive add-ons, but I really like the built-in feature.

Since we’re adding a master bedroom and bathroom to the attic next year, I thought I’d start with ordering this.

Start by going to your local supply house specializing in plumbing fixtures of all kinds. If they can’t furnish what you want then they may be able to direct you to another plumbing supply that can help.

Otherwise search the web with Google.com and other search engines for what you want.

If you like toilets with extra features, you might want to look at Japanese toilets. Certainly built-in bidets are fairly common there.

Well its not an Egyptian toilet but check out http://www.totousa.com/ for built in bidet and other functions
They are the standard in Japan. I don’t use the bidet feature myself but the heated seat rocks!

I think availability depends on where you live. In Toronto, I’ve seen quite a number of plumbing stores prominently advertising bidets and combination toilet/bidets in the Chinese and Korean parts of town, for instance.

I don’t think I would like a heated toilet seat. In my mind warm toilet seat = someone else was just sitting here.

Skammer, thank all the heavens that it’s not just me. I really dislike warm toilet seats. I’ll use 'em, because when you gotta go you gotta go, but I don’t like it.

Shit like an Egyptian

Sounds like all you want is a toilet with a built-in bidet.

Kohler started selling them this past spring, and no doubt other plumbing manufacturers offer similar items.

Except that they are usually found on the most fancy toilets, ones with lots of extra-cost features included. You can probably buy both a regular toilet and a stand-alone bidet for less than the cost of a combined unit. (But they will take up more space in a bathroom, and require a bit more plumbing to install.)

I’ve often heard The Bangles Walk Like an Egyptian. The OP wants to crap like an Egyptian too.

This wiki page seems to list several companies which sell bidets in the US. I don’t know if the combo unit you’re looking for is here yet, you might need to import it. If none of those companies carries one, the next step I’d recommend is calling around to home improvement stores. I know that Lowes does special orders, and this might be an option somewhere.

Bidets are awesome. If/when I go back to the states, I am taking it in my suitcase.

Hi!
I know exactly what you are looking for because I bought one for my home in the USA. mine had an oval top with the flush mechanism a button on top that was gold as was the knob. The base had beautiful detailed flowers and nob on the side for the bidet function. We are trying to contact the company now for 4 more of these for a Victorian we are buying. They are beautiful yet practical for homes that do not have space for a bidet.

Hope this helps you:)

Kind Regards,
Cynthia

That was a Jay Leno joke…

“They’ve come up with a heated toilet seat. I don’t see why that’s so special - you can get the same effect from sitting on any public toilet in New York. Not me! I like it ice cold. I want to know I’m the only one who’s been there…”

But yes, I found the full-loaded (so to speak) electric toilet in a four-star hotel in Shanghai. when you’re done, you can use a warm wash there before you wipe. I recall some item on the news once about a Japanese one that also blow-dries (??!) and plays background music to hid the splash sounds.

After my experience with these in Turkey, I want one too. I want one with a built-in heater though as that initial jet of icy water is - err - pretty refreshing

Bidets, or in my case, bidet attachments, are the bee’s pajamas. Wiping, and the paper comes back clean, is a nice way to end a session. There was a recent bidet thread and some people just could not be convinced of their effectiveness. Their loss.

Amazonhas a whole bunch of these add-ons listed. Even if you don’t buy from amazon, reading the reviews can be very helpful.

When I was in Italy once, “Turkish Toilet” had a very different meaning…

It was that thing that looked like a sink sunk into the floor, with a pair of footprints on each side of it so you could just squat over it and do your thing. The more backward ones had a faucet and length of hose nearby for “flushing” the solid waste down the drainhole.

I’m sure stpauler has found his toilet in the nearly 4 years since he made this thread.
