Disclaimer:
I like animals. I hate to hear about incidents of abuse towards animals. I don’t enjoy knowing that animals are commonly used for various lab tests but I appreciate the need to do so in most cases.
"Neuticles allowing your pet to retain his natural look, self esteem and aids in the trauma associated with neutering. "
:smack:
Hey, you want to dress up your pet in silly costumes?.. go for it!
Throw the fur ball a birthday party with cake and their favourite park buddies?.. knock yourself out!
Take him to an animal psychologist so he can work through some of his passive agressive issues?.. why the hell not! Maybe the doc can throw in a free consult for you.
But give me a fucking break… Self Esteem issues?
Some folks are just plain batshit crazy.
I can’t even see such a thing for a show dog, because if the dog is pedigree, it likely also will be a stud and therefore intact. What those implants really are for, is those dog owners who can’t reconcile the idea of any kind of male part removal, so they are meant to soothe the human who puts themselves in the place of the dog and shudders. I’ve heard, and read enough statements by dog owners (usually male) who can’t stand the idea of “chopping them off” because it hits too close to their manhood, or their perceptions of what a male should be. I agree, it’s ridiculous, but it does serve an emotional purpose for the human. If such things will get more dogs neutered so there are less strays, I guess it’s not all bad. I’m still going to point and laugh though.
It’s kind of you to try to put a positive spin on this. And I know that at the end of the day, it’s not like any money is coming out of my pocket. Still… I have to share the planet with these people…
I read an article a while ago where a guy said he couldn’t walk down the street with a neutered dog, because everyone would see it had no nuts and this would somehow affect his social standing. So he didn’t get his dog neutered and is busy producing vast numbers of puppies.
I’d say no, because they are only ornamental, and produce no hormones. Hormones are what would make some dog believe they are intact. Some breeds are convinced they have balls, and act like it even if they don’t. Neutering them doesn’t change their attitude for the most part. They are meant to appeal to the humans, just as some of those cat/dog foods are meant to appeal to humans with their vegetables. That kind of food isn’t the most healthy, but it looks appealing to humans, so it sells. This isn’t that new, this kind of thing has been going in in the pet market for some time, just not as blatently.
QuickSilver, I know what you mean, but on the scale of stupidity that could affect you, this is very small.
I read some time ago there was a man who had one or both of his own testes removed because of cancer, and tried to get prosthetic ones for himself from this company, because nobody made prosthetic testicles for humans.
Anybody else hear of this and know if he ever got them?
I must say, I love the Sizing/Pricing chart. It’s so … space-age, what with the wire-frame blow-ups and all. Still I imagine I would inflict emotional trauma on my fixed male cat, Jelly, if he heard me say to the Vet, “One pair please. Extra small.”
C’mon, you know that deep down inside, all of you, like me, would like to put a pair or “Great Danes” in a Chihuahua and watch him drag them around the house for a while.
Just a little while, of course.
Homebrew’s right, the comment about how men are unwilling to go around with a neutered dog was made by the shelter official in the case I’m thinking of, though I could’ve sworn I’d seen the same sort of thing somewhere else.
