Why should they steal an election when they can simply buy?

I suppose you have some evidence that spending more money on an election than the other guy guarantees a win (or even makes it much more likely)?
Well, if it doesn’t, there sure are a whole bunch of rich guys pissing their money away.

I mean, these guys pull down the big bucks because they are so smart, yes? The guys who green-lighted New Coke, the guys over at JP Morgan, the Free Market (blessings and peace be upon it!) showers them with money because they make really, really good decisions, yes?
But not about this?
Did those rich guys piss away their money like retards, or did they disproportionally influence the election?
Seems a simple question. Did the rich do something stupid, or did they punch democracy in the balls?
