Seriously, would someone explain to me why this is funny?
Serious question- why? You don’t find it funny and that’s ok. Is there really an explanation that would change your mind?
FWIW, I didn’t find it funny myself, but it was an opportunity to send back a goofy reply (I knew it was a joke), so I’m good.
Seconding please explain the funny. “Haha I lied, and here’s some people who believed me and some who didn’t.”
FTR I have been amused by some April Fool’s jokes, but ones with a lot more thought put into it. James Randi for instance. No link as I’ve already spoiled the joke by saying this. Some of you probably know what I mean.
As stated earlier, there seems to be a general consensus that the joke itself is lame. It’s the people who have such a vehement reaction to the concept that we are laughing at, now.
I wonder why it is that most people think trusting others is a good thing and at the same time feels like a fool when trusting someone who turns out to be lying.
don’t be fooled.
i’ve seen pictures.
she’s a hottie.
check social media.
Dammit! I wish I’d thought of that one! I think I love it best of all. ![]()
I am shocked, SHOCKED to find out that April Fools pranks involve lying! Or that making someone look foolish is funny! What ever happened to nice, wholesome pranks, like putting salt in the sugar bowl? What is it with kids these days…
They’re called Private Messages for a reason.
…well that’s just jerkish.
As was the sending of the PM’s, as is the posting of those PM’s here.
To Idle Thoughts: if someone contacts you and asks you to remove their PM from this thread: are you going to abuse your mod powers to have them removed? Or is is just a case of sorry, can’t do it?
Such strom and drang, jeesh. You know, there’s really no shame in “trusting” someone and it ends up being a harmless prank. I still fail how to see that anyone was seriously hurt over this. I had one pulled on me before I even rolled out of bed this morning and, GASP, it was by a person who is even closer to me than anyone here… a family member. You’d think my confidence in them now should completely collapse, I should move away and don sack cloth and ashes. But instead, I giggled and went back to sleep. It’s okay to be gotten. If you can take a joke (no matter how lame it is).
(Cuz we get to talk about our privates)
You know what? I can’t help what I laugh at. People getting butt-hurt over this look ridiculous to me, so I’m laughing.
This seems to be threadshitting. You don’t like it? Start a Pit thread, or post in the ATMB thread where people are discussing the merits of Idle Thoughts’ PM.
Oh good grief. You’re taking this way to seriously.
I, personally, am deeply hurt that you haven’t really “always liked most of my posts”
…your response to my response is absolutely hilarious!
You do know where the “report this post” button is right?
Oh good grief. It was a simple question. You are taking my post way too seriously.
I don’t think I’m a good candidate for this particular prank, so that’s why you won’t see my responses in the list. I didn’t respond, although I did receive the soi-disant “private” message.
If it had been sincere, I would have deleted it because I don’t know Idle Thoughts from Adam and find the unwonted familiarity and intimacy inappropriate. It’s like the random meth-head cornering you and explaining his latest personal issue and how his favorite conspiracy theory is responsible.
If it had been a prank, I would have deleted it because it doesn’t deserve a response.
So, “find the delete menu item, problem solved.”
BTW, PM management UI is probably the worst-designed piece of crap in this pitiful version of Vbulletin.
Uh, ok? Glad I could brighten your day.
Maybe it’s just me, I’ve always had a bit of a weird sense of humor sometimes, but I just find/found it amusing the vast, various responses. Seeing who knew it was a joke due to the date right away, who was fooled, that sort of thing.
My logic is this (although I respect if you see it or feel differently): They all still are private, pretty much. Nobody knows what reply goes with who, or even who was asked in the first place. Unless someone says “Oh, I fell for it” or something along those lines; then everyone will know one of the answers is theirs…although I doubt it will be guessable with the 70 some ones there are.
And if anyone does say “Oh, hey, this one was mine” (which I’ll leave it to them to do, if they want), then they obviously don’t mind it being connected to them.
There is no way to tell who any of those are and nobody ever would or will know save for the person themselves or if they decide to reveal which one/if they were one.
I don’t know, I guess I’m just not seeing the huge breach of privacy here. It’s all anonymous, but YMMV.
That all being said, I probably won’t ever do anything like this again.
Yes, the board is veritably awash with hundreds, if not thousands, of conservatives. I’m sure my message passed unnoticed.
Yeah, until now.
