i forgot to give my dog her heartworm pill last month…that means a WHOLE MONTH in the middle of skeeter season here…im taking her to the vet tomorrow to have her checked…but i have this terrible feeling…its just so late and im in the “tired but cant sleep” phase and i just hope she is alright…i feel TERRIBLE…i cant believe i forgot her pill
Don’t blame yourself, it should be all right. Really.
hopehopehope…she was sooooooo sick for a long time after i got her from the pound (at 8 weeks, shes 2 yrs now) and i would stay up every night and take care of her and i know shes “just” my dog, but i live alone and shes my compnay! (and she just came in to check on me and bumped her wet nose on my face LOL) ugh, its 445, i gotta quit rambling and get to bed (im talking to myself now–i need SLEEP!!)
You sound like a caring pet owner who’s just made one mistake. You could be beating yourself up over nothing. I think chances are your doggie’s fine. Even if she was bitten by an infected mosquito, you’ll be able to get her quick treatment (since it was caught early) and increase her likelihood of getting through it just fine.
Thank you for sympathies! Goodness, everything seems sooo much worse that late at night on not a lot of sleep. I just called the vets office and the nurse said that she should be just fine…im taking her in for a checkup anyway (so ILL quit worrying LOL) now its back to sleep for a little bit…soo…tired…here…LOL)
My dog’s come with a little reminder sticker to put on the calendar. Once I flip over to the new page, I take one of them out, mark it with the date, and put it by the coffee pot. This has worked for me for over four years. You might try that to help you remember.
I’m sure that your dog is okay, though. Especially if your dog has always been medicated up to that one time. But it is a good idea to check it out.
I think it’s nice to see another very caring pet owner. Now, hug your dog and get some sleep!
She’s probably OK. It would be quite different if heartworms went unchecked for extended periods of time. If she has acquired some heartworms, she can be treated. They are more dangerous to treat the longer the exposure, but generally the outcome of treatment is positive. Get her to her vet soon, as much as for your own peace of mind.
I can sympathize, though. I share my house with two four-legged critters. One is a full blooded Obnoxious, and the other is a part SpoiledRotten and part TooDrattedCuteForHerOwnGood mix.
Thanks Byzantine and tbea925! I finally did get some sleep and am now about to head off to the vets office! Gills (my dog LOL) pills came with stickers and stuff too, but after i painted my kitchen i moved stuff around and put all the pet stuff in a diff. spot…and forgot! Now im going to tape the packet to the fridge! LOL
And…LMAO on dog breeds! LOL My dog would be classified as a full-blooded “Perpetual Puppy” LOL
Negative! hurray!!!
Glad everything worked out for you and your poochster.
Now, can Ol’ Uncle Dave give you a little piece of advice?
I know you hadn’t had much sleep, and you felt just awful because you had forgotten the pills last month. But you immediately decided to do the right thing and made an appointment with the vet ASAP. That was using the old noodle. However, having done that, getting all worked up into a lather is counter-productive, for both you and your dog.
A wise man once told me, “Never worry about the things you can’t change.”
OK, you made a mistake. And you felt bad. You have a good heart. But what good did it do to fret and stew about it?
You’ll live longer if you follow The Dave-Guy’s advice.
Dave is a wise man. And even if we did duct tape him up and played Dave-Pong with him, he is STILL a wise man.
Glad to hear Gills is okay!
Hooray! Gills is fine! I can’t imagine what I’d do if my dog got sick right now.
I’m glad everything turned out fine.
I know, i freak out something terrible and worry waaaaaaaaay too much…and yep, to the point where it hurts my health…im still working on that =-) deep breath! thanks for the posts back everybody {{{everybody!}}}} I have more news actually LOL I went to the shelter with my best friend and we picked out a brother for gills, hes a lab mix and looks a bunch like her and i will have him tomorrow! i really got to thinking last night and today, and i see how much she enjoys being around other dogs (best friend has one) and i think it will be good for her to have a brother! hes skinny as a rail but hopefully he checks out ok at the vet (im prepared for worms and stuff like that, its parvo/distemper thats the concern.) i know, seems silly to add more worries, but im going to look upon this as an adventure LOL =-) wish me luck! LOL =-)
Good luck!! And congrats on getting a new poochie! I’m sure Gills will love him!
