I'm Sick and Tired of Backstabbing, Mealymouthed Democrats in Congress (Re: Weinergate)

I don’t see how it’s “backstabbing” to distance oneself from somebody who did something stupid and gross (and possibly unethical). If fact, I’d think it worse if everybody who happens to have the same parenthetical letter after their names circled the wagons in defense just because. That sounds more like the other party.

Yeah just like we keep hearing about David Vitter. The reason you’ll keep hearing Weiner Weiner for the next 18 months isn’t going to be because of Anthony Weiner it’ll be because the people on the other side of the isle behave like children.

Constanze, honest question. I understand that you don’t care what he does. (I do, but I we can differ). You really don’t care that he spend the last week telling bald face lies about it? Don’t you think that if he’d like about this, he’d be more apt to take a bribe or lie about other things, that you might care about?

They ***all ***act like children in this reguard. I honestly don’t see one side acting better than the other.

They couldn’t do it if he hadn’t been such an idiot.

Sure, but Vitter had a huge advantage.

This. Silver lining is the Breitbart is an attention junkie, he would staple his scrotum to Greta van Sustern’s desk if it would get him five minutes of national attention. He’s hooked, there is no turning back, and he *will *screw up, big time and downtown.

Meet me here when it happens, we’ll organize a group-gloat.

Speaking of attention hoors, The Donald posted a youtube of his opinion of The Weiner.

One side is not like the other. Eric Cantor and Reince Priebus are now calling for Weiner to resign because of this scandal. They didn’t do so for David Vitter. That’s a mighty hypocritical position they’ve found themselves in. Did Wiener do something above and beyond what David Vitter did that justifies their difference in opinion besides simply being a Democrat?

If all things are equal and the Democrats don’t act better then the other, surely we have examples of Democratic leadership calling for Vitter’s resignation but not Weiner?

I hope to hold elected public officials to a higher standard than just what is illegal. This guy was ridiculously stupid - that for me is enough to want him out of office. We should hold our congressman to a higher standard of stupid than this.

Umm…Because he was sending out pictures of his wiener. And then lied about it, while also saying that he couldn’t tell if the wiener in said pictures was his with certitude - or as Jon Stewart said the other night cocksureness - or as I prefer to say wienersureness.

Are you saying that he has a bigger wiener?

The NYT reports that Huma Abedin is pregnant.

Nah. It’s just harder to identify it through the diaper.

I see a business plan in there. We can call it TwiXXXer.

At least we now know that it works!

I don’t know why she kept her maiden name. What’s wrong with Huma Weiner?

Well I can’t help but notice that the other party, although it only controls one house of Congress, has a lot more success getting its way than the Dems. Maybe there is something to backing your guy even when he’s done something stupid.

Hey, if it keeps people’s minds off the economy, it could work very much to the Dems’ advantage!

Oh, come now. The people in Congress are grownups, regardless of how childlike their behavior is for the sake of the media. They could give a flip about Weiner’s twittering. And they all lie like rugs whenever it works for them. I’ll grant you, Weiner responded in a MONUMENTALLY stupid way to the discovering of his twit-brained shenanigans, but what he did pales in comparison with what many others who are still in Congress have done. We all gotta grow up a little here. This is kid stuff.

The Republicans wouldn’t treat one of their own that way. Family values candidate David Vitter spent the whole of 2007 banging $300 an hour whores, but the Republican Party stood by him. It’s stuff like this that makes them a more cohesive, and consequently more effective, political force.

I agree Weiner’s conduct was unacceptable, but if the Democrats are genuinely serious about combatting the right-wing agenda then they should bite the bullet and stand by him. At the very least, they should refrain from attacking him. Is it dirty? Yes. Is it ugly, distasteful, unrepentantly partisan politics? Absolutely. Is it what the Republicans would do? Of course it is. Weinergate is a short-term embarrassment, and will almost certainly be forgotten in a few months. Weiner himself, however, has the potential to be a powerful voice against right-wing interests for years to come.
