Man, O’Reilly really hates Mexicans. He was really losing it there. That was a nice glimpse into what kind of a malicious, raving lunatic the guy really is.

And Ivylass? No, he wasn’t right. Trying to deport all undocumented residents for misdemeanors would be impractical and stupid. Geraldo was right, his drunkeness behind the wheel had nothing to do with his “illegal” status. O’Reilly was just pouncing on the story as an excuse to bash illegals and try to imply between the lines that they’re all dangerous criminals. It was just pure race baiting (like it always is with this issue, don’t tell me it isn’t) and Geraldo knew it and he called O’Reilly on it.

No, this time I do agree with Gerardo, (and I hate Fox for giving me that choice here) talking about deportation is avoiding the issue. (see below)

He may have been right in point of fact, but the conclusions he seemed to be drawing from that fact were suspect. Is it factually true that had the illegal alien been deported, he would not have killed those girls while driving drunk? Yes. Is this specific incident a valid argument for deporting illegals to begin with? That’s awfully shaky.

In yet another case, I do remember that deportation showed to be a joke, the bastard returned illegally to the US and then got drunk again and also killed other drivers (I shake my head at drunk people seemingly miraculous property of surviving wrecks while their victims die)

Point being that the problem does remain drunk driving, I think the authorities need to realize that repeating drunk driving needs to be dealt with longer jail time when the drunks show no common sense. Deportation is a cop out when there are no good treaties with other nations that would keep in jail people that break driving under the influence laws in the US, the best solution remains their incarceration in the US, for both immigrant and natives.

I personally thought Rivera looked passionately well-spoken – but I haven’t seen him on anything else to have any predetermined feelings about the guy, so I’m not sure that opinion is worth anything.
