Relationships fall apart for all manner of reason, from abuse to ennui from affairs to a death of a child. I agree that coming at any one issue as described above won’t get either party very far!
I do think that in this case, you may be right about the husband being clueless about this particular issue–and the OP came back and related how he had gone out for ice cream etc–he is trying. That’s great. I just read your post as that old, old saw handed to women for all time–well, he’s not beating you and isn’t drunk or running around, what else could you want? and I saw grrrrr.

I had no way of knowing that you had indeed read a book like I mentioned. If I could just point out that the OP did ask him to go to the movies and he said no–so there was an attempt by her to get her needs met. Perhaps she should have said, (in a nice way-it’s damn hard to express tone here) “hey-I went bike riding with you today, hows about you coming to the movies with me?” or something similiar. Maybe then all this would have been avoided…
