I hate the Honda Element and it’s ugly step sister the Scion xB. I fail to see how Box + Wheels = Stylish car. I test drove the xA with my wife because that is as close to the xB as I would get. I flat out refused to even open the doors on the xB, and told my wife that if she bought it she couldn’t park it in front of my house. She got a Corolla instead. I went back and got the tC later. That is a nice looking car. BTW we are both very happy with our new cars.
Well, how do you think SUV or truck drivers feel every time there’s a thread bashing one or both vehicles? How do you think drivers of American cars feel every time there’s a “Ooo, my foreign car is sooo much better” thread? It gets old after awhile. In the end, you drive what suits your needs. Sure, you feel the need to justify your purchase, but in car-bashing threads there’s really no point.
I was discussing with The Boy last evening over a pint, and it occurred to me that what I think is so odd about the way folks go on and on dissing the xB is that, considering no one is holding a gun to their heads (presumably) to purchase one, they get so very vehement about it.
[verystrangecomparison]It reminds me a great deal of when I was 11 or so and the New Kids on the Block were so popular in some circles, and in other circles kids who dared to wear an NKOTB T-shirt or something would be ridiculed and beaten up. It’s like, okay, you don’t like them, I get it. Why do you care so much if I do?[/verystrangecomparison]
Honestly just curious.
Did I just compare my car to the New Kids on the Block???
Actually, I don’t. I’ve got a PT Cruiser, an Avalanche, and a couple of Vettes. But sooner or later my Cruiser and Avalance get pulled in with ‘I can’t believe someone would OWN one of those ugly things!’
Life’s too short to drive boring cars that don’t offend.
It’s that indecision we like. It’s a family hauler when we need it, a pickup with a locking cab when we need it and a wide open carry a lot of big crap when we need it.
Onestarted out as an 89 but is now hard to categorize (Forged 383, race tranny, etc.), the other is a Blown 98 Coupe.
So, I drive some odd lookin’ vehicles and some very environmentally unconscious vehicles. And I’m glad I live where I can.
