Arrrgh, my boyfriend has gotten me all conflicted. He says getting another cat would change Dewey’s personality, that he wouldn’t be so affectionate and human-centered. True or no?
You should definitely get another one, especially since the dog won’t play with the new cat. One of my favorite things about having pets is watching them play. ( I don’t have any cats right now, but I love to show off my dogs, and it’s the same principle.) When we get back to the states, I will have multiple cats…and goats, and horses, but I think only one cow. With floppy brown ears. Maybe an alpaca. The more animals, the better.
Two cats will soon put that silly dog in his place. Strength in numbers. BTW, my sister has two cats and they share one litter box, bowl, etc.
Gah! That was suposed to be small! What happened?!
I have two cats, as I’ve mentioned in some of your other threads. Even though they have become friendlier to each other since I brought them home (I adopted them both at the same time), they are both still very, very friendly to humans, so I don’t think you need to worry about Dewey’s personality changing.
I didn’t realize before I became a cat owner how easy it is for the cats to start adding up. There have been times when I’ve been tempted to add a third  but I know two is enough for me. Good luck with finding the right kitty.
:smack: I bumped your old thread and then saw this one. :smack: (I dug that one up to send the hypoallergenic info to my oldest brother, so he could email it to our nephew [he’s 14], so he’d bug our brother who’s allergic to cats into getting a kitty.)
Having more cats won’t cause Dewey to be less people centric. Remember, when it get’s cold you’re the warm spot in the bed, and cats love warm things. (Unfortunately, they some times decide that the warmest and most comfortable spot is your face! Normally, the thought of being smothered by pussy is a rather pleasant one, but only if it’s the two legged variety.)
I’ve heard that adding a cat of the opposite gender is the way to go, but don’t have any experience in the matter, so I can’t say for sure.
Being as I’m a dog person, I don’t think you’re being fair to your dog. You’ put him thru a lot of emotional distress with the first cat - to which he still hasn’t adjusted - and now you’re going to add another? Poochie’s getting the short end of the stick here.
And to prove puppy overlords are just as squeeeee-worthy as kitty overlords, here and here are some pix to prove it (of course, being his slave makes me a bit partial.)
I’m really starting to think that Poochie will never be able to hang with Kitty, though. And, I mean, if they can’t be left alone together, what does it matter if there’s one or two of the kitty variety? Trust me, Poochie still gets plenty of love and kisses and Snausages. (I think Snausages are like doggy Klondike Bars.)
I’m starting a whole new thread on the “did your cat change?” thing, though, I really want to hear people’s experiences. (Aaron says “you KNOW what those cat people are going to say. Enjoy your last few days with the Dewey you love, now!” Aaron loves to jerk my chain.)
