In all the bad luck I’ve had recently (ok it is self created bad luck), I’ve been very lucky. I had to order my “driving file” for insurance purposes. As I thought I have nothing on it, no outstanding warrant, no arrest but there is one thing I had totally forgotten about… paying my freakin, driver’s license. So for the last 10 months I’ve been driving without a license.
So now I’ll go pay it tomorrow but dang I’ve been very lucky not to get arrested!
I drove on expired tags for a year, totally oblivious. I discovered this on December 30th, and my tags expire on December 31st. Or, double expired, as was the case that time. I only found out because some guy walking by my office made a comment to me when I was getting out of the car.
When I rushed down to get the tags renewed they made me pay for both years - which I was okay with because my lapse was unintentional. I still have no idea how I missed that for an entire year. I’d just assumed I’d taken care of it already. This is just one more story that proves I need a personal assistant.
Not quite in the same leagues, but I thought I had paid for two years of SDMB Membership, up to 2014. So when the reminder came up I ignored it.
But then I got to worrying a little that I ought to check just to make sure, and in fact I was right to as it was only up to 2013. I was this >< close to losing my Charter Membership. I have renewed to 2015.
Mama Zappa, I’m the worst when it comes to bill payment. I have changed my payment system now but last year, I got the renewal in the mail and just put it on top of all the other unopened envelopes and totally forgot about it.
But now it’s paid, I can drive to Ottawa peacefully. Mind you I was peaceful before as I thought I was legal, I’m also happy driving again, as I stopped for two days which was kinda stupid but because I knew I couldn’t drive with a good conscience.
Curiosity Kills Her, I asked while I was there if my tags were good and they said yes until October this year. I had to ask in case I forgot that one also.
Yes I’m very lucky but I’m also very stupid!!!:smack:
Lucky! I’ve done that with car registration before, but noticed within a week or so.
For some reason I often pay attention to registration tags on vehicles. If I notice that someone’s is expired and it’s easy for me to tell them (like in a parking lot), I’ll let them know.
