I'm Working Reactively

I’m having one of those days.

You know the ones. The ones where no matter how hard you try you really just can’t be bothered to work. I’ve tried, but its nearly two O’Clock now and i still just can’t get motivated.

There’s no particular reason that i can see for feeling like this today, there are no major crises in my life, nothing is dwelling on my mind, i just…

you know…

can’t be arsed to do anything.

So I’ve declared the rest of today “Reactive Working” time. I’ve set harsh rules for myself, because rules are important, and I will stick to them:

  1. I will sit here in the office and listen to blues on my mp3 player.

  2. I will deal swiftly and promptly with any tasks/problems that are brought to me by co-workers.

  3. I will do bugger-all else apart from browse the board and look busy by working on my own website.

Ah, but there IS a reason to feel this way. It’s Monday!

I spend way too many of my days working reactively – dealing with the stuff people bring me chews up most of my day. I would love a day that was declared “leave twickster the hell alone so she can get something done day.”

I agree… I want a “leave latch the hell alone day”… otherwise I try to do stuff, but people always interrupt me.

I’m having a brain block day. I want to get work done, I really really do, but my brain just doesn’t want to come up with the goods.

So, I’m listening to the Queen of the Damned soundtrack and wondering how I can get two pages of typeset gibberish to become 15 pages of typeset gibberish. Oh and drinking coffee, and pretending to look busy whenever my supervisor walks in…

A larger font’d mean breaking regulations which states “15 A4 pages, typed, with the font no larger than 12pt.”

That reminds me, I need to put on my John Coltrane CD. Then I could work or just shoot up some heroin. Not sure if that’s an Amsterdam or jazz musician reference.

Garius, glad to see you around, have you got your connectivity and housing issues resolved yet? If so, will we see you back in the Dip-Dope community soon?

Nope - I’m still scouting between GF’s couch and my Parents.

The good news is that i’ve set up a network at my Parents house, so can now get onto their broadband connection.

Plus my new Laptop is due to arrive this week - which will give me access at the GFs.

Once thats sorted i’ll be back and itching to be stabbed… :slight_smile:

Oh, Angua, what font are you using? Not all are created equal. For example, Arial Narrow (12 pt) will not fill as many pages as Times New Roman, Courier New or Arial. Garamond should really fill up the spaces. Use all BOLD IN CAPS. Be creative. And do add lots of graphs and pictures. That always helps.
