iMac and Shareport

I have an iMac set up with a D-link modem with Shareport to access an external storage device. I can connect to the storage device and access read-only, but cannot write to it. Any idea how to change this. (searched the internet but couldn’t find a relevant article).

While we’re at it, a couple other oddities:

When I connect to the storage device by Shareport, it says I’m connected right away, but it take a long time, as in 5 minutes or so, for the icon to appear on the desktop, or for the drive to be listed in Finder. So, even though I am, I guess, “connected”, I can’t access the device until it shows up.

If I already have another external storage in the computer, say, a camera card, and then try to connect to the external device via Shareport, it never shows up. That is, it says “connected”, as above, but the device never shows up on the desktop or Finder, so can’t be accessed. This does not happen if I do in reverse order, ie. connect via Shareport, then put in the camera card.

These last two I can work around, but not the first. Thanks.

Regarding Read Only, is it formatted as NTFS? If so, OSX can well have an issue writing to it. There is native support in Snow Leopard (apparently) but it is quite awkward to enable, your best bet is to reformat as a Mac drive.

If you didn’t reformat after buying it then it probably came as NTFS. You can check this under Disk Utility. Sorry I can’t write more, I don’t have a Mac to hand right now as I am work.
