Imax forced to censor itself

Basically, Imax is being forced to not mention evolution or even hint at it, or anything that may be related to it, like the age of the earth etc…

This could be written off as localized nut-cases controlling what happens in their neighbourhood… except that this case has world wide reach.

Imax has libited distribution. There are only so many Imax theatres in the world. If any refuse to play their films, they may go out of business. Instead they are forced to censor their films, making them generic, with no serious content.

So, the rest of us who don’t live in the US bible belt suffer because we are forced to see watered down films that Imax was forced to make by creationist nutjobs. We, and our children lose out.

Am I right in this?

The full article I linked first is from the states and says science centres in the southern US claim they just think the film is not good… The Canadian version of the article didn’t mention this I don’t think.

Where is the proverbial gun being placed to Imax’s head? Imax is making a conscious decision to be intimidated and give strength to a growing ignorant mindset. In doing so, Imax will eventually lose. So will we all.

Pit thread on this subject.

I lived in Texas, which some argue really isn’t part of the south, and now I live in Arkansas. In both cases I don’t think there would have been much of a furor if evolution or the age of the earth was mentioned in one of their films. Oddly enough people in the south do get Discovery, TLC, and the History Channel all of which mention the age of the Earth and talk about evolution from time to time.

Imax would be silly if they didn’t ignore this. In real life, I just discuss evolution as a fact. Nobody has ever challeged this. And if they did, I’d just dismisss them like someone who argued the sun revolved around the Earth. Since even NASA agrees with me…
