IMDb, can you remove the goddamn popup that shows up every goddamn page?

I watched No Way Out the other night, and recoignized the Scott Pritchard character, but I couldn’t remember in which movie I saw him. IMDb to the rescue!

So I go to the IMDb Search page.

Here comes the goddamn popup for Underworld. With sound. “I am a death dealer…”

Annoying, I’m at work, um, working, I don’t want to hear that. Close it, enter “No Way Out.”

Here comes the goddamn popup for Underworld AGAIN. “I am a death dealer…”

GRR!! Close it again, click on Will Patton’s name

Here comes the goddamn popup for Underworld AGAIN. “I am a death dealer…”

Son of a…oh that’s right…he was in Copycat. Go back to view the Trivia…

Here comes the goddamn popup for Underworld FUCKING AGAIN. “I am a death dealer…”

Son of a BITCH!!! Your goddamn website is friggin’ UNUSABLE with that goddamn thing up there! If I’ve visited that page 5 seconds ago and closed the damn thing, that means I don’t want to see it again!! STOP IT!!! First I have to deal with ESPNs’ autoclosing popup annoyance, and now this!

It ain’t easy being me.

Are you talking about the semi-transparant thing that overlays itself right on top of the stuff you want to see? I hate that.

Get the Google Toolbar. I held out until I went looking for a bunch of song lyrics and kept getting 3+ popups per page. I installed it and it’s killed 73 popups in 2 days.

There are popups on the IMDB?

Thanks for the link GMRyujin! Strangely, it doesn’t seem to be doing it any more…

Popups? I haven’t seen one of those in years.

The only thing I like about those Underworld pop-ups on the IMDb is that the Google toolbar can block them. Just before these ads, I was running into the AOL Instant Messenger pop-ups that, for some reason, the Google toolbar didn’t block. And those AIM ads were evil.

AIM pop-up ad blocks the screen.
Click close on the pop-up ad.
Different and slightly smaller AIM pop-up ad appears in lower right corner.
Click close on the pop-up ad.
Jump to new page on the IMDb.
Begin process again.

There’s no reason anymore for complaining about popups. If you haven’t advanced to using Mozilla or Opera which block them on its own, at least use the Google toolbar in IE.

And, as we keep mentioning, Netscape 7 has a pop-up blocker too. Works great.

You took the words right out of my…er…fingertips.

I downloaded Popup Stopper several years ago and haven’t been bothered since then. I believe you can find it for free at www.panicware.com.

I’m using Zone Alarm Pro and have it set to block the majority of pop ups.

Including that one, apparently.

Mozilla here and haven’t seen a pop up ad in months.

So, hold on. You’re complaining about a free, awesome site supporting itself?

Am I the only one who sees something wrong here?

Earthlink. ::sigh of bliss::

Sorry to hijack, but I’ve noticed several people mentioning Google Toolbar. Any way to use with MSN 8, without having to open IE?

Thanks - DESK

I luvs my Google toolbar. The only things it doesn’t work on are the occasional ads on the Weather Channel site; the annoying kind that appear then go away. I HATE those. But otherwise, I haven’t seen a popup in weeks.

I doubt it. It’s toolbar specifically within IE.

I use Free Surfer and haven’t seen a popup since I installed it.

The worst popups are those that make noise.

He’s not complaining about advertisements, he’s complaining about obnoxious persistent abuses of the internet.
