Floating Ads! (re: IMDB and "Sorcerer's Apprentice")

I was trying to scroll through the collection of photographs of a particular actress. But every single time I clicked on the scroll arrow, the “floating ad” for “Sorcerer’s Apprentice” popped up, obstructing the picture, and making me search for the “close” button on the ad (which is not always so self-evident).

Every time

OK, IMDB: I know Disney’s probably paying you mega-bucks for every page that their floating ad appears on. But I’m so pissed that I can’t browse thru your site like I normally do because I have to work around the “SA” ad, that I’m not going to go to the @!#?@! movie like I was going to. So now, Disney’s lost $30 in revenue that they would’ve had ALL BECAUSE OF THEIR ADVERTISING!

Really? The banner ad wasn’t enough?

People still get more than one unblocked advertisement or so per month? Really? In 2010?

Firefox. AdBlock. Problem solved.

I hate those on IMDb. Yahoo does them as well from time to time. The other thing that IMDb does that bugs me is their top banner. It loads a few second after the rest of the page loads, usually causing you to accidentally click on it (which I assume is by design) when trying to put the cursor in the search bar. Especially annoying on mobile devices.

Yeah, Adblock is the answer. You can turn it off, to see ads on sites you want to support, and turn it on to block bullshit popups on sites that behave badly. And no, I have no guilt whatsoever about using it to block popups.

When do I get Adblock for my iPhone?

Better yet, no more annoying ads that cause people to use adblock software in the first place. I generally don’t run adblock because I feel like I am supposed to see ads in order to pay for the content. But wtf, if they make the ads so damn annoying, then I HAVE to use adblock. Morons.
