In a thread elsewhere here someone had embedded a link in a movie title, when I clicked I was like, “This site is awful, why didn’t they link to IMDB?” and then I realized it was IMDB and this was my first experience with their redesign.
I really don’t like it. The page seems so much busier which makes it harder to read. Any one else not liking it?
I agree, a few days ago I was looking for a movie quote. I pulled up the movie’s page and then had to do a Control-F and search for the word “quote” when I couldn’t find the memorable quotes link. At least the IMDB app still looks the same.
As someone who is interested in the business of TV and movies I was mad when they took away the “Studio Briefing” portion of their news. But then I just linked Studio Briefing so it’s ok.
Am I crazy? I checked the IMDb a few days (a week?) ago, and it seemed like it was very different; the sections were in “bubbles”, the cast list was much shorter than normal, and it just looked weird. But now when I look at it, it seems relatively normal again.
Clutter things up. (Even good old Google is doing this nowadays.) K.I.S.S. folks! There’s a huge increase in “cruft” at the top of the page. The pictures is bigger. The bio is much bigger. There are now 3 full sections of cruft (“known for”, “pictures” and “videos”.)
Push important stuff off so it’s not all on one page. Have to click on “Show all Actor credits” to see the complete list. So if you’re searching a bunch of people’s pages to find common things, you have to scroll down and click on that on each and every one before you do your search.
Idiotic!
Etc., etc., etc. (Yeah, the quotes, goofs, etc. stuff is mismanaged too.)
It looks the same as usual to me too. I visit at least once a week and have never noticed any of the changes people in this thread are complaining about.
If they would just keep the links running down the left side, I really wouldn’t care what they did to the rest of the page, as long as I could still find what I needed.
The thing that really bugs me is the delay of about a second before the banner ad pops up. If you wait to long to click on the search box you end up clicking on the banner. It’s the only site I’ve seen that does this and I have to assume it’s on purpose.
I don’t like it. It looks cluttered and it’s hard to read. And what happened to the “my vote history” link that was right next to the rating? Goddamnit.
Okay, yeah, I’m finally seeing the new layout and it sucks. That huge “Known for” section at the top is indistinguishable from an ad for DVDs, and for people who have huge lists of accomplishments, you have to click to see them all, and it’s still all cluttered and confusing and oh my God, I hate this.
God damn it, if they had to change anything, it should have been their extremely low-tech and shitty message board layout.
I can’t see the new design, so I have no idea if I’ll like it yet, but I do think the IMDb was in dire need of an update and some tidying up of its horrible clutter.
Might as well go to Google or the free online dictionary, if Webster’s continues on this neo con path of destruction. They have tinkered with a classic look and format, not unlike a printed dictionary… woe unto them.
With all the work they did, they couldn’t have invested some time into cleaning up that train wreck of a message board? I loath the times I have a movie question that I know has probably been asked before. I’d be willing to pay a subscription fee if they would have decent message board software* and have mods.
Did they make any changes to the board software. It almost looks like they now have replies to replies instead of all replies being to the OP.
*Years ago you could actually click the ‘inline’ button and see all the posts on one screen. I’d even be happy to have that back.
