IMHO and MPSIMS

Has any topic ever been moved from IMHO to MPSIMS, or vice versa?

Here is a thread which was moved to MPSIMS by Asimovian, who is a mod in IMHO. So, probably?

Yes, that is fairly common.

Any particular reason you were wondering?

There are probably few forum moves that have never been made. Threads have even been moved out of the BBQ Pit to other forums.

One April Fools Day we had one thread that one mod after another moved to some other forum.

Such hijinks!!

What can I say? We found it hilarious, but we don’t get out much.

We were trying to design a way to send an electrical shock to the keyboard of anyone who posted to the wrong forum, but we couldn’t get the details worked out in time.

I’m betting his reason is pretty mundane, but that’s just my opinion.

I would debate that but that’s another forum.

But was it pointless? (We’ll not bother with the question of whether or not your opinion is humble. )

Did you try asking for advice in Great Debates?

Interesting that “What’s Your Favorite” is the title of a thread in Thread Games, while at the same time being the designated exemplar of a thread suited for IMHO.

I think the distinction can sometimes be fairly small between the two forums. But I don’t think it’s all that unusual for me to have moved things from IMHO to MPSIMS.

I have tended to do so when I’ve thought it was fairly clear that the poster was making a “I’m sharing this interesting factoid with you guys” post as opposed to “I’m seeking people’s opinions on this question/topic.” Many thread OPs often have some blending of the two, and in those cases, I wouldn’t relocate the thread.

If I were a gambling man, I’d bet that nothing has been moved from Comments on Cecil’s Columns to the Marketplace.

Or from the Marketplace to the Pit.

I suspect the strongest reason for this is the forum description for IMHO was written years before Thread Games came into being. It also depends on the intention/direction of said thread. For example, I would say “What is your favourite way to serve chili?” sits best in Cafe Society, “What is your favourite football team?” would do best in The Game Room, “What is your favourite way to subtly insult someone?” could be IMHO, while a thread where the stated purpose is to post things like “My favourite colour is red. Your turn.” is clearly a thread game (disclaimers: I am not a mod, and I don’t know what the currently active thread actually contains).
