Importing DVDs to iPod

I recently got a new 80GB iPod and would like to put some of the movies that I own on it. Paying Apple 10 or 15 dollars for a film I already own seems a bit ridiculous and I don’t want to do that. Some brief Googling led me to download Handbrake, which looked like it should work. When I try to encode the video as an MPEG-4 so that the iPod will like it, Handbrake tells me that the disc is copy protected and it can’t do anything.

What’s the best way to get my movies onto my iPod? I’ve got Vista and iTunes 7.

In the United States, breaking the copy protection on a protected DVD for any purpose, even moving the movie to another device you own, is a DMCA violation, and hence can’t be discussed here.

Yes, in this instance, the law is idiotic. Call your congressman. Seriously.

Let me guess.
You’re using Windows.

There are other programs that will remove the DRM and convert the DVD files to iPod-compatible besides Handbrake, but it is illegal in most or all cases to do this so the board prefers we don’t discuss such things.
