Here’s the problem. We have two computers, one with OE5 and one with OE6. The old one (with OE5) has all the emails we want to keep. We want to move those messages from OE5 to the new computer.
I know there’s the import|export function in Outlook, but I’m having difficulty with it. I went to Microsoft’s site, andthis page did explain how to export your messages, but it looks as if the article is intended for people who are moving messages from one OE to another on the same computer, rather than from one PC to another.
I know there’s an easy way to do this, but I’m lost.
Ideally, the OE on the new computer would have all of the old messages (imported). If that’s impossible or too tough to do, then I’d at least like to save the files in a readable format. I found the folder in Windows that holds the mailboxes, but the files are in a .dbx format and couldn’t be read by Notepad.
Like I said, there has to be an easy way that I’m just not seeing right now.
We already went through and deleted a lot of unnecessary messages; I then went into Explorer and zipped up the folders (leaving the folders themselves intact, of course), with the idea that I could save them to a floppy and then import them to the OE on the other PC. But no go.
Any ideas?
I’m not near the PC right now, though, so if I left some info out I’ll have to rely on my memory…
You can use the method suggested in the Microsoft document you provided. All you’d have to do is follow the first part of the instructions on the old computer, copy the newly filled “Exported Messages” folder from the old computer onto a floppy or zip disk, transfer it from the floppy/zip disk to the new computer, and then import the contents into the new Outlook Express the same way it suggests in the second part of the instructions.

what? Man, you really need a cup of coffee.
1- export as per that page
2- move the files to the new computer (you really need to be told this? come on!)
3- import as per that page.
There are other ways of doing this. I have done it countless times.
