I’ve finally got my new screaming fast computer set up and the new 22" monitor. And even got iTunes to work with some help from Dopers.
Now, I just need to get my 2007 Outlook files (address book at the very least) over to 2010 Outlook on the new computer. I’m not using a transfer program, since I installed 99.9% of the software and files myself.
So, anybody willing to give it a shot? I promise this is the last question on this. At least i sure hope so.
Keep in mind that you’ll probably have to point me to folders, etc. Thanks in advance.
You have to export the file from the old computer, and then import to the new. Go into Outlook–>File–>Export (or something like that). It should be pretty easy, but make sure you have a nice sized thumb drive to export it to-- your mail file might be pretty big.
Just a quick note: If you use **Hotmail **for your email Outlook won’t store the messages in the .pst file because it doesn’t really need to. The first time you sync to Hotmail with a new computer Outlook will copy everything from the servers to your new PC. If you have a tremendous amount of messages it can take a little while, especially if you’ve stored large attachments to them, but you only have to do it once.
Not Hotmail. We’re connected through a server we’ve had for many years. Are the messages in the Archive file? Also there is a backup file that has some 8 million mb in it.
What type of server, IMAP? If you’ve had autoarchive turned on some could be in the archive .pst. I don’t know where the backup came from but look in there too. You can have multiple .pst files open at the same time.
Hi friend,
I suggest you to backup your Outlook data before migrating your Outlook profile from Outlook 2007 to Outlook 2010. This the safest option to save your Outlook data from being lost or corrupt. Few days before when I planned to upgrade my Outlook from 2007 to 2010, I backup my whole outlook data by using Outlook Backup Utility. With this tool it very simple to Outlook attributes such as contact, emails, personal folders etc. With this you can even backup address book in Outlook 2010/ 2007/2003/2000. This tool is compatible with Windows XP, Vista, 7, Windows server 2003 and Windows server 2008.
