In case you were hungry: A creepy 1980s Estonian meat commercial

In the 1980s, Estonians apparently didn’t quite ‘get’ advertising yet. Living under the thumb of an oppressive anti-capitalist empire will do that to a culture. But what they lacked in experience, they made up for in a big Harry Egipt. Egipt was the genius behind multiple Estonian TV ads from the 1980s, including an ice cream ad that will make you feel dirty. But what else can you expect from the Sex God of Soviet Estonia?

For Pinguin brand ice cream.

“It’s just ice cream” indeed.

You know, Estonia is pretty close to Finland. I wonder if a very young Linus Torvalds had an experience with that ad, leading to the penguin mascot Tux for his operating system Linux.

Naah.
