Swampie, you missed a zero. poke Swampie
Not that I’m rubbing noses with this. I was still in diapers when Kennedy got whacked, so I don’t remember it happening. The earliest president I remember anything about was LBJ, and he sure as hell wasn’t the Best Man in the Country.
**Bobbio ** - I was 9 when Kennedy was shot, so I wasn’t exactly politically savvy, but I had figured out that to be elected President, you had to be the best guy, right? “May the best man win” and all that, you know? So his death really hit me harder than it probably should have, and since then, I’ve learned more about politics and getting elected.
I liked it better when I truly believed the best man won…
I don’t blame you. One of my standard smart-ass responses whenever I’m asked at a store “Did you find everything you wanted?” is “No. I couldn’t find childhood innocence or youthful idealism.”
Chicken With 40 Cloves Of Garlic. We also had the couscous recipe found elsewhere on the page. YUM!
Oh, and Nava don’t poke da bear. You don’t know where he’s been!
Even if you know where da bear has been, you don’t want to poke him - he’s such a cranky old fart, you get him all wound up and the next thing you know, he’s out on the front lawn waving his cane at kids who aren’t anywhere *close * to his lawn!!!
I think **Nava **was referring to the “15000 people” (it was 150000) rather than the “40 cloves.”
But I like the idea of 400 cloves of garlic in a recipe, too. There ain’t no such thing as “too much garlic!”
A touching OP. Special1.
Very moving, Special1.
My weekend was kinda normal. Mr Rebo’s was not - he installed a new window in the front room! Soon he will get to the other one. You can already tell it will block the heat better, since it was frickin’ 80° this past weekend. I think they are saying a record-breaking 88° for Wednesday!
I have a busy week ahead of me (so what’s new?) because I’ll be on vacation Nov 19-27. Woo and hoo! And my brother is coming in the Monday night after Thanksgiving. We’re going to surprise my Dad.
Later, y’all…
I can’t decide whether or not I’m nervous about my interview today. I don’t have very high hopes to begin with because it would be pretty impossible for someone like me (with so few years of experience) to get a full-time position at this point in my career. On the other hand, I did get selected for an interview, so obviously they must like something about my cv.
Hugs for PurplKid.
At least we hope it’s just his cane!
Great OP Special 1, very thought provoking, and it brought me back to that whole time.
My resolution this week is to not be so MMP absent. Of course, this will probably fall by the wayside as I only work three days and then embark into the city to stay at a swanky hotel and engage in three days of drunken debauchery all in the name of public education. 8000 educators at a ‘conference’, at which every major vendor in the state will be hosting ‘hospitality rooms’ and ‘dinners’.
Fear my liver!!!
Appropriate appendages are crossed!
(What? Yes, I am being squeaky clean today. No, I don’t think it’s going to last… :D)
Congrats to Lilbro!
If he wants to mop around a house, mine would be a good one for that. I don’t like doing housework, so anyone who wants to come to my house and do some housework for me is welcome. (If he just wants to mope- well, I can do that myself)
Best of luck on it!
Great OP Lunch.

**Haze ** sending you out good vibes for the interview!!
I’m off again today. I really need to get some stuff made for the craft fair. That is what I’m going to focus on. Hopefully I can get some of that done.
Thank you, SpecialOne. Peace must be bought, and we must never forget the price, or forget to honour those who paid it. It was Remembrance Day here yesterday- at the eleventh day of the eleventh month, at the eleventh hour…
((((Kid))))
I’m up late, it’s dark and rainy outside, and I’ve got to start my day. See y’all in a couple of hours.
Hi, all. I’m at work. Some people aren’t employed by the gummint and have to show up even if the banks, courts, feds, and post office are all slackin. I’m just sayin…
As for the OP, I’ve been a card-carryin freedom demonstrator since the sixties. Y’all carry on. (Although I have to say I’ve kinda handed the marchin baton off to Lil Lestat[sup]TM[/sup])
Speaking of my darling baby, did y’all see my iphone post in last week’s MMP from yestidy? Sure wish I could justify spending $400 cause it is ultra cool.
I’m among the ranks of those who’ll be taking all next week off. It’s going to be a rather quiet Thanksgiving since the Grumpuses have passed on and BarbeeDoll[sup]TM[/sup] and her clan will be in Li-Li land visiting. Just my immediate family for a small intimate meal of thanks. Hey! Where’s that Pumpkin Cake recipe???
Time to get some COC*
Tupug
*Crappy office coffee.
That was a great OP, Special1. It is certainly a measure of my having been spoiled by growing up in a democratic country that more or less sharply separates church and state that I have never known what it is like to live in a place where there is political strife of such magnitude as that. (Oh, our US neighbours experienced the JFK assassination, and the attempt on Regan’s life, but in both cases it was just a lone nutjob. Oswald had political views far outside the US norm and was just generally a pissed off dude with a history of such actions, and Hinkley was just a whacko stalker with a thing for presidents.) I’ll admit I don’t know much about Rabin except that I’d never heard him being embroiled in any international controversy except for the assassination itself. I just hate it when fanatics twist the words their belief system is based on to fit their desires and convince them that they are what their God would want. I know however that, lacking religion as a convenient excuse, they doubtless would have found something else that would whisper in their ear and tell them that their ideas are good and just. Religion is just a convenient tool that is easily manipulated to that end. It’s a damn shame.
Everyone is right though. A rally going 150k strong is anything but a failure. That’s still one hell of a sea of people – we don’t even get that kind of turn out at rallies. It’s just too much work for the average North American – and besides, Survivor is coming on.
Oh. And there is such a thing as too much garlic. I had the garlic bread at some restaurant establishment once. There was so much garlic in the butter (or was that butter in the garlic?) that it burned when you bit into it. After eating it I felt like I must surely be emitting waves of garlic odor that distorted the very air as it radiated form my entire head in shimmering ripples.
On the plus side, I had no need to fear vampires that night.
Anyway, awake and caffeinating. Saturday a friend of mine had me go over with him to Staples because he wanted my opinion on a new computer he wanted to buy, so I spent half an hour going over it with him and giving him the lowdown. Then yesterday, I was supposed to fix someone’s laptop (network problems) but he never showed. Then this morning the wife of the aforementioned friend stopped me as I was getting on the bus to tell me that hubby wanted me to come by this evening to help him with something on the new computer. I’m a popular tech guy lately.
Hank - I didn’t know it was possible not to be nervous about an interview. Even when it’s for a job I don’t really want I still get nervous.

Y’know, that is kinda fun.
I forgot- chicken with 40 cloves of garlic is really, really good, but try not to go outside for a couple of days after eating it. Sequester yourself at home.
As God as my witness, I read that as “I just emailed my psychiatrist my last porn…”
stopped me dead, it did.
Nice tribute to a good man, No one. I am conflicted about Israel v Palestine, but that’s another thread. I confess I don’t understand the POV of hatred–and I pity that poor child-he will grow up indoctrinated and bigoted. We are an interesting species sometimes.
I have to go buy MORE fly traps today. We are living in a war zone over here, and the fruit flies are winning. I swear I’ve scrubbed and cleaned and god knows what all, but…disgusting. <pukey smiley>
So that’s why the neighbors were all screamin’ and runnin’ for their lives when I went out to get the paper. Yanno, I could hardly taste the garlic last night. It seems that boiling the garlic takes away from the potency. Or, I’m just immune. On the plus side, I can go outside at night all week without worryin’ about vampires.
I wonder what would happen if 15000 people ate chicken with 400 cloves of garlic? Would the world then be free of vampires? Ponder on this and get back to me cause Ima go take a nap.
Later Y’all!
