True, but the election of Trump has emboldened them and brought them out in the open. Before they realized that their opinions were not going to be well accepted by mainstream society so they kept them to themselves or only in cases where they knew they were surrounded by their fellows. By being elected, Trump demonstrated that it is possible to engage in bullying, insulting and racist rhetoric without suffering negative consequences.
Maybe that voyage is ruined.
