In possession of three nameless kittens.

Yup, at the jail I work at we get a lot of unwanted food thrown out of the cell windows, this attracts loads of crows, magpies, and general vermin.

Consequently we often get hungry cats move in for easy pickings, stuffed-full pigeons tend not to be as wary and take off slowly.

One day a litter of moggies moved in, about 10 weeks old(never saw their mother), not much more and they proceeded to evict a pair of magpies from a nest they had used for a few years, the nest had been added to each year so it was quite large.

At first the kittens couldn’t climb the tree but they never lost their envy for the magpie real estate and eventually after a couple of weeks they made it, and this is where they made their home.

It was pretty funny walking down the yard, with cameras watching, to feel live non-human eyes watching you, four very young cats looking out over the edge of that nest, observing every move.It didn’t matter how bad the weather was it was their home and they weren’t gonna move.

Trouble is little cats become bigger cats and the squirming for limited space in the nest took its toll, the nest slowly disintegrated(it seems very odd posting about a cats nest somehow) so they became homeless.

This gave us a chance to catch them and they were duly neutered, except the Ginger tom who has since sired another litter from a differant female and he has now moved on, typical I guess, blimmin’ morals of a tomcat.

We then watched this new litter grow until they were weaned and ready to be rehomed. These are the kittens I now have, two females(I think) one male, two are grey/black strips a bit like ocelots and the other is a tortoise shell.

They took to the litter tray within minutes, constantly eat and when not sleeping do passable impressions or WWF and Exocet missiles.

One is very brave and nosy, one is very cautious but tends to be more lively, and the third is something between.

I haven’t got names for them yet, Beryl might be a good one, or Bella and Donna, the tom I could call Albert. If there had been one more I might have opted for Marge, Homer, Bart and Lisa.

I had thought of Scylla too because I admire his posting but I won’t unless he gives me the go ahead. This would lead to another name, since Scylla was at one side side of the Straits of Messina and Charybdis at the other, Charybdis is a bit cumbersome so I could shorten it to CherryB

Someone out there in Doperland can surely help me out.

Being a Luddite I don’t have a scanner, digital camera, or web site but they are damn cute, you’ll just have to take my word for it.

Considering your location you might contemplate
Gefängnis or einsperren.

I’ve always liked Mercutio or Merc

There’s always Moris for that old but new feeling.

Just give them a human name. Too many mitsies and muffinbottoms running aroud.

I never realised that my language skills were so bad !

I’m English!

I got loads of hits when I put those into a search, but they are all in some Johnny Foreigner like language so I’m none the wiser.

How about Trouble, Mischief, and Nuisance?

As I’ve mentioned a few times around here I named my cat Dammit. May I recommend Dammit, G*ddammit, and Damn You? The names are not only interchangeable but, as you will soon see, EXTRAORDINARILY useful

Gefängnis is a noun in German, meaning prison.
Einsperren is a German verb, meaning to lock up. (Thanks Babelfish!)

How about Alex, Arsene and Gerard?

::d&r::

Once again, I submit the names “Minou” “Loki” and “Watson”.

Minou, I believe is the French equivalent of the call “Here, kitty, kitty, kitty.” (Naturally it becomes “minou, minou, minou”.) This fits a cat who is relatively cautious but who still maintains a lively streak.

Loki is of course the Norse god of mischief. He was viewed as a necessary evil to the world and you can expect this cat to be brave and nosy and sure to get into a lot of trouble.

Watson is something in between -who pals around mainly with Loki and gives a wide berth to the tempermental Minou.

Wait, we were talking about your cats weren’t we?

My suggestion’s little questionable if you want to be pedantic on the gender thing but*, given where you work an’ all, I think Tom, Dick and Harry would be perfect – as in the names of the three tunnels in ‘The Great Escape’.

And you’ve got a motorcycle…Dave, it al fits !

How about Claude or Harry for the male? AH HAA HAA HAA! Get it? For the two girls, how about Anne and Catherine, seeing how as they’re prison kitties? (And as a bonus, you can call the Catherine kitty Cat or Kitty for short! Cool, eh?)

I think you should name the boy Frankie. You could name the girls Shirley and Lucy. If I had those cats that is what I would name them. I am totally one of those people who gives my pets people names. I think they are so much cuter.

If I ever have a pride of cats like that, I’d name them Lepsy, Tonic, and Pult.

How about Winkin, Blinkin, and Nod?

Ohhh, triplets! How about Nina, Pinta, and Santa Maria? You could refer to the third one as Santa.

Or how about Donald Duck’s nephews Huey, Louie, and Dewey; or Daisy Duck’s nieces April, May, and June. Or mix’n’match - April, May, and Dewey.

I think Lucy is a good name, it fits one of them quite well.

Loki would be ok but the brave nosy one is a female.
We have a comic book cartoon character here called Beryl the Peril which is about as close as I can get, I think maybe Beryl would be a pretty good name.

The male I may call Morris, or maybe on his suave days it’ll be Maurice.

If anyone comes up with anything else then it’s worth a tryout the previous are my current favourites but if something better comes along I’ll use it.

Ruadh
Dang it!! I missed, you were just too quick to get away!!!

I think this loses a little something, what with casdave being English and all.

I’ve always been a fan of naming pets after admired fictional characters. My dog is Hobbes (after the comic tiger, not the philosopher). My cat is Cringer (after another tiger, this one He-Man’s). My fish are Scylla and Charybdis (named them before I knew of the poster here). Howsabout naming them after the kittens in The Aristocats? They could be Toulouse, Berlioz, and Marie.

Other famous threes:
Melete (“meditation”), Mneme (“memory”), and Aoede (“song”)-- the original three muses.
Larry, Moe and Curly.

Lots of fun possibilities. Let us know what you decide!

They’ve just been checked over by the vet, 2 males one female.

Female - Lucy

Brave male - Loki

Nearly brave male - Morris

Apparently the inverted V-marks just above Morris’ eyes are a mark of regality in Egyptian myth, or so I’ve been told.

Thanks for your replies, right now they are busy discovering how stairs work.

Argh!

Got here too late!

I just wanted to let you all know that when I get a cat (which is going to be never… but I REALLY want one) I’m going to name him Lysander. Somehow, it’s such a cat name.

Still thinking of a female name in case I get a girl…

Don’t know why but I made up a list of names I really wanted to call my cats but I never had enough cats to fill my list so if you needed them you were welcome to the last three;
1.)Shub Niggarath; Cthuluesque character in the videogame Quake.
2.)Skin of Evil; Star Trek The Next Generation episode 22- a life form of pure evil kills Tasha Yar.
3.)Squirt; Just small I guess.
My cats have been either vicious or small so they suit me. I never saw the point in giving a cat a sensible name.
