Ouch. I was going to tell you that because of your posts, I’ve stopped being irritated by the less vs. fewer brouhaha, and that I’ve left most of my prescriptivism behind. But not anymore. Nope, it’s strictly by the (Strunk & White) book from now on. No colloquialisms, no dialects, no split infinitives. English, the way the 18th century (and God) intended.
But seriously, I adore olivesmarch4th, Kythereia (with the second e!), Anastaseon, Sunspace,and many others.
(I also adore parentheticals. It’s a sickness. Really.)

You have read Lekatt’s posts haven’t you? 
Actually I do appreciate Lekatt no matter what others may think. He’s a poster with conviction who will argue like a mad dog for what he feels is right. In the process, whether he is right or wrong (whether any of us are right or wrong) we all sharpen our debate swords, shed the mortal coil of ignorance, steel our own conviction and march forth into the world quietly repeating our battle cry with each solomn step.

I’ll nominate two people who Im sure don’t give a rat’s ass about me.
Indygrrl because she works a job that mainstream America thumbs it’s nose at and she enjoys it. She also doesn’t take crap from pedestrians, from what I have read here.
Zoe because she has been the voice of reason for so many years to so many students. I hope some of her charges have looked back and said “I can do this because my teacher told me I could”.
They still don’t give a rat’s ass about me, but what the hell.

olivesmarch4th - she always brings a unique perspective, and a strong sense of balance and bravery to topics that hit close to home for me.
Diogenes the Cynic - he’s a right raving fuckhead of the first water, lives right down the road, and I’m dying to buy him a cup of tea, just to see if I’d want to rip him a new one in person. I like unrepentant fuckheads, even when I disagree with them wholeheartedly.
bufftabby - she always manages to strike just the right compromise between “look, assholes, tighten it up,” and “excuse me, gentlemen, do you think you could modify your behavior, please?” It’s impressive. I’m learning.
5-4-Fighting - he always has a point. He’s never, in my memory, posted just fluff, which is awesome. Generally, his point is a good one, even if it’s one that I don’t agree with. He has the sense to back down when he’s proven wrong, and the balls to give people the finger when he’s just unpopular. I like that.

I think if I was forced to pick a single favorite Doper, it would be Shagnasty. I think his stories are always great, and I think he gets misunderstood sometimes and people take what he says the wrong way. Mostly I think he is absolutely the most dead-on honest person here.
