In praise of Dopers who don't normally get praised

I concur!

As I work in a men related industry and rarely speak to women (ladies), the eloquence and beauty they display in their words, touches me in a way that few people have ever done. Here the truth of peoples hearts becomes bigger than daylight. Both men and women.

olivesmarch4th and little plastic ninja show me a beauty in women that I have never seen in real life.

That Revenent Threshold has spoken to my heart of many things unknown to me in the past as well.

There are so many awesome posters here, I really don’t know where to begin.

Oh, and Dio , you are such a giant dick. Yes, this is a compliment.

Thanks. You know I love you, Sarge. Not in a 3:00AM flea-bitten just off the interstate motel kind of way, but in a recognition of simpatico kind of way.

I’m a cabin in the mountain type of chick, just so you know.

So, now that I am here…

Euthanasiast and pkbites for their rants of sheer poetry.

Beaucarnea, looks like she’s finally back.

Miss Purl Mcknittington for her sense of humor and true sensibility. Hopefully she comes back.

Vinyl Turnip for being a snark god, (lower case) but I notice that Muffin is making progress, for a Canadian…

The MN crew for wit and intelligent discourse. 'luci, Shodan, imthjackaz, Dangerosa, taxi78cab, yellowval, DtC, Misstake, NurseCarmen, Capt. Lance, t-bonham, Chimera, Punkyova, Beadalin, Brainiac, a couple of people from the outskirts whose names elude me at the moment, (A number and letter combo name, specifically)and everyone else local I missed. It’s amazing what quality of posters we have from such a small area.

Bear_Nenno for being an all around good guy, and for debating a divergent point of view from the majority here with class and intelligence. Occasionally a smackdown, but rarely.

Madmonk28 for keeping my planes in the air. JohnnyLA for his helicopter expertise and enthusiasm.

danceswithcats for never having a wrong answer to a contractor question (yet… but I am keeping my eye on you) and the other couple of guys that know the trades and construction, Carson O’Genic, maybe? Couple of other ones.

Auto for having a great sense of humor, and absolutely no clue as how and when to wield it properly. We’d get along famously IRL, I think.

The TK’s, of course. You know who you are.

An Arky, for good posting, and good music.

spoke- for tons of great weather songs.

I could go on like this for hours, but I need to get back to running my empire.

If you are one of the many I did not name, know that you still have impacted me and my life. Whether it’s answers to my stupid questions, clarity to a situation, a different viewpoint, or just some well executed snark, I think you guys are great.

For anyone who has ever laughed at one of my posts, I owe you a beer.

I laughed at three of your posts.

Regards,
Shodan

Ahem.

The picture threads don’t count, smartass.

pbbth made me smile, alot.

A poster whom I like a lot, and who hasn’t yet been mentioned in this thread, is jovan. Back when he had let his membership lapse, I found some of his older posts and I wished he was still here. And then he came back!

Other than that, there are many posters I recognize and enjoy reading. I don’t want to try to name them all (since I’d forget most of them anyway), but I’ll still mention Lemur866 and RickJay (probably because they’re the ones who first came to my mind). Lemur has a very impressive area of knowledge, and I really appreciate his humility, and Rick and I have rather different political opinions (although they converge on some points) but he’s given me the opportunity to see other points of view.

And of course, Stranger on a Train probably has the most impressive spectrum of knowledge here. But these last three people aren’t exactly “dopers who don’t normally get praised”.

Let’s not do this, shall we? This is about prased for Dopers who don’t get enough of it. There’s a whole forum for calling people names.

Thanks!

I actually post on a variety of topics – books, films, pigeons, Texas as Hell on Earth, Hawaii. But it’s my scam posts that seem to be remembered best. That or the oddball visitors who come over here, such as this German who tried to kill himself last Friday because he could not find a place to take a leak.

Thanks, fisha, I guess you owe me almost a case of beer. I will collect it when we meet in the log cabin I will erect in the mountains of the Carolinas.

Most importantly, elephants.

Yes, let’s not forget elephants. I’m about to start a thread on this story.

A few weeks ago there was a thread about PMing other dopers and said I was going to randomly PM another Doper, so I PM’d twickster, one of my favorites who had posted in the thread. Then I went back to the thread later and saw pinkfreud had posted and decided I should PM her too, because she’s also one of my favorite posters. Then I noticed that I had a private message and it was from pinkfreud who had PM’d me first.

Yesterday I wanted to post about pinkfreud in this thread but the board was broken, so I came back tonight and lo and behold, pink beat me to it again.

I would certainly enjoy a beer or two with you, pink.

I’ll nominate Ivy Lass. I’ve always found her to be a voice of moderation, especially regarding President Bush. I’m not a fan or supporter of Bush, but neither have I ever bought into all of the Anti-Christ hoopla surrounding him. She’s showed real class, too, in the handling of her tumor.

I’m “A-List”? Damn! There’s something I never thought I’d hear when in high school waiting to be chosen for basketball like the 300 lb. one-legged whore in a low rent Reeperbahn window. :stuck_out_tongue:

There are many many I’d love to name, and I’ve really no idea how much or how little praise most get, but… I’ll start with just a couple:
Jali- for being always intelligent, kind, and the deliverer of some razor sharp witticisms (usually when least expected).

Friar Ted- who though I could probably fill three libraries with “things we couldn’t disagree about more” in terms of religion and what-not, but who always comes across respectful, well thought out, and manages to make intriguing points on some complex topics and remaining true to his beliefs without coming across as at all narrow minded or arrogant.

elelle- for being a sweet and smart “steel magnolia” in general.

Pardon me for adding a “ditto” to this one as well.

Lots more, but I’ll list them in the ad I take out in VARIETY.

Sweetums–you’re on MY A-list, which might not the accolade you are looking for…

Aw, shucks. You do know that half of the time I’m just talking out of my ass, right?

[Channeling Sally Field] They like me, they really like me![/CSF]

Don’t give me that, your posts rock. Besides that you are a way cool person to ride to a dopefest with.
The list of my favorite dopers is very long, and I will only mention a few.
Silver Tyger Girl is a hoot. The only person I know to name her printers. (Pixel is giving me problems today)
Stranger on a Train Beside being smarter than anyone else I know, he rides a mean mountain bike.
Nic2004 Based on our interactions here on the dope, he had me grab the wife and fly all the way across the country to come hang with him and his family. This guy is serious good people. Great family too.
Autolycus is a great guy in person. I don’t know if I would buy a used ladle from him, but he is a raconteur.
Silenus I can’ t forget to mention my twin brother by a different mother. More times than I can count, I go into a thread, and find that he has posted exactly what I was going to write.
There are many, many more, but I am too tired to list them right now.

I fear that perhaps what I find most praiseworthy is people who I’ve noticed agreeing with me. I also fear that I don’t know how to express praise beyond simply noting that certain usernames make me more excited to read their posts than others. With those disclaimers:

When the oft-contentious language threads bring him out of the woodwork, I generally find Kendall Jackson’s posts on the matter very impressive; he seems to put an astounding amount of effort into them.

Often, it has appeared to me while reading an argument or discussion that Frylock is able to cogently pinpoint the essential matters at hand, highlighting the direction in which the conversation ought to go, even while those around him are lost in a sea of red herrings and ineloquence.

There are others, of course, but (apart from those who already get a fair amount of notice and thus aren’t quite right for this thread), rather than merely namecheck, I’ll have to wait to figure out the right way to praise them. In the meanwhile, if I haven’t mentioned you, just assume I hate your guts and spend every idle moment fantasizing about the glorious day when you will finally slink pathetically off this messageboard, you putrid stain on ostensible humanity.
