In re: Atheists v. Christians debate

I’m taking over this thread!

God doesn’t exist, and those what believe in Him are doo-doo heads. DOO DOO HEADS!

I wouldn’t have thought posting a meaningless OP would get that for him, but I would have been wrong.

That’s because there’s nothing in your OP to connect with.

Oh, I’m telling your mom! You’re so going to hell for that.

What’s that smell? Oh, it’s doo doo.

If anyone cares, here is an article on the event:

Your thoughts have no connection to reality - your posts are my cite.

You didn’t answer my previous question - so are you shilling for this ‘branchofhope’ org now? or are you on the side of the atheists*??

Thank you.

They all actually sound pretty reasonable about the whole thing. I predict there will be no fisticuffs.

As far as I know, dougie_monty is still a J-Dub, and still considers Presbyterians to be as dangerously deluded as non-believers.

I presume he posted about the debate because he thought it would be of interest to atheist Dopers.

Why he chose the Pit is anyone’s guess. Maybe he figured that since GD is the appropriate forum for witnessing, its “opposite” is the appropriate forum for the opposite of witnessing.:dubious: That’s just a WAG, though; don’t take it as conclusive.
The above is intended in response to simster’s query about whether dougie_monty is shilling for branchofhope. The gist: probably not.

Hey I left my wallet in El Segundo!

I’m of the same mind about Millerites AND Calvinists, in a “Where in the Bible do they get this shit?” way, but to each his own. From my own exposure to Presbyterians and atheists it sounds like very dull program and I send my regrets.

oh - I know he’s a j-dub wannabe - but he is, in fact promoting

a) their website
b) their debate vs. atheism

without any content of his own - not that he’s ever proven to be able to actually discuss, much less debate, such matters.

He is, in fact - witnessing for that group - its as if he knocked on the door and handed us their info.

High on a hill, it calls to me…

The last post is my commentary on the general attitude expressed by most of the replies in this thread: just a bunch of hecklers. It makes me regret posting the thread in the first place, since people with that attitude would not be welcome at such a debate. It would be like inviting rednecks or Klansmen to view the Nuremberg Trials. I was wrong to expect you to be above such a childish attitude.

Or, it’s because it’s because nobody knew what the hell your point was in starting this thread, and when asked, you continued to post cryptic bullshit?

(Forget it people, he just wants to pretend he’s the poor, put upon Christian, mocked by the big mean Atheists)

lonely up on that tree is it?

Where you erred in your expectations was that we would, as a group of readers, make the assumptions you wished us to make about: a) what the debate you propose to monitor and report to us regarding would be about (the Existence of God - hardly apparent from your OP), b) the reason you posted this information in the BBQ Pit (still not clear on that one, and you still haven’t explained), c) what sort of replies you were soliciting by posting the OP (again, in the Pit instead of MPSIMS where announcements generally go or in GD where debates are provoked by posting a particular position on a subject), and d) the attitude you wished to project concerning the prospective debate (apparently some sort of enlightened interest, judging by the disdainful post I’ve quoted above) (making one wonder, again, as one must, why the fuck you posted this in the Pit).

Does that help explain your reception, or should I create a stained glass representation of Marcus Aurelius persecuting an early Christian to help further illustrate the point?

You used to many words - it’ll take poor dougie_monty all night (or maybe longer) to read that and come up with a rejoinder.

I guess I should make clear to dougie_monty that I’m posting from the perspective of a Christian (or someone who is trying to be Christian). I’m not antipathetic to the idea of earnest theological discussions. I find the particular question rather irrelevant to science and rather tangential to questions of faith, but that’s just personal preference.

Fucking Presbyterians!!!

Amiright dougie?
