Well, read the article over again: where does it say the father was Christian? It is possible, but unlikely, that he could have been a member of one of the fringe Jewish sects, or Mormon (it is argued by some that Mormons, altho they certainly revere JC, are not a “Christian” sect, just like no-body calls Muslems Christian- even tho they accept Him as a Teacher). Tell, me, when you read about “gang-bangers”, do you always assume they are minorities? Does the word “stereotype” mean anything to you? How about “bigot”?
I would not call this “man” a “jeezoid” or even a 'fundie", he might be neither. He is a “loonie”.
Now, as to the term “jeezoid”- it is a pejoritive, bigoted term. You say you use it only to refer to the “bad elements”- but that does not make it OK. If you used the term “nigger”, to refer only to gang-bangers- would that be OK? No.

Despite the fact that the article did not spell out the words “This Man Claims To Be A Christian”, it’s implied by the text of the story (and numerous other news stories that have been going on throughout the week). I would imagine that they realize that only a complete moron would need them to be that specific at the start of evey article.
And those arguments are just plain wrong. Ever wonder what “LDS” stands for? It’s also argued by some that the universe is only 6,000 years old, or that women should have their clitoris’ (clitori?) sliced off.

The term “fundie” is used as a derogatory term for all fundamentalists, and can never be construed to refer to someone who is not fundamentalist. “Fundies” applies both to certifiables like the dipshit in the CNN story or to overbearing but otherwise harmless fundamentalists on an airplane trip. Navigator considers himself a fundamentalist, but he does not bother you and you like him, so he is not a fundie.
What flashed through my mind was the old phrase “credit to his race.” He speaks when he’s spoken to and stays in his part of town. So, he gets the respect he’s earned by not threatening my beliefs. But these upper other ones are just a bunch of…you get the idea. This clearly is not the sort of relationship you have with Navigator; there is genuine mutual respect and affection. But the implication left by calling people you don’t like “fundies” is that Navigator, too, will be just a “fundie” if he should disagree with you.
I’m not sure if I’m making myself clear enough. I hope you understand.

Hate to break it to you, but 'Gator and I disagree on a LOT of things.
And your analogy is somewhat flawed about the person who gets respect for being “a credit,” because that person is probably being judged negatively and his actions make the bigots tolerate his existance.
Whereas I assume that all people - Christian or otherwise - are cool until they personally show me otherwise, and then my wrath is dedicated solely to them, not people who are like them.
That and there are assholes who are not Fundies who get the wrath just as much as anyone else who deserves it. The term is used simply to define a specific asshole.
To give you an example, I have called danielinthewolvesden an asshole on several occassions. He happens to be a Christian. But in spite of him being a Christian and an asshole, he is not a Fundie.
Why? Because he is not using his faith in an assholish manner. Hence, the difference.

Note that the started of this thread, Adam, specifically asked for my opinions & input. I responded. How is that a “persecution complex”? If you are "sick of hearing about it’- who forced you to read this thread? Adam did not ask for your input- he asked for mine. Now, that does not mean you are not welcome to speak your mind, but certainly you should not be giving me a ration of shit over posting here.
Next- where in this thread have I said anything at all about Christian being persecuted? I said that the use of the word “jeezoid” was pejoritive, and bigoted. I also pointed out that the nutcase in the article might not have been a Christian- other faiths use the OT, also.

A bigoted term “being used to describe a single asshole” is still a bigoted term. If there was an asshole, who just happened to be black, do you think you could get away with calling him a “nigger”? You’ll be surprised to find out what can be classified as “Christian”. My old High School followed the “Marianist” tradition (basically, all their prayers went to the Virgin Mary). They are considered Christian, even though they emphasize his mother more than Christ himself.

Daniel, you’re partially right about Christians following Jesus Christ, but Proverbs is in my Bible and I believe it’s some good advice.

A Christian who is an asshole about something having nothing to do with his religion (say, he cuts you off in traffic) is still just an asshole, because his religion has nothing to do with his actions.
A Fundie is a religious person (not just a Christian–they just happen to be the most prevalent about it) who is an asshole SPECIFICALLY BECAUSE OF, REGARDING TO, AND DUE TO the religion they have chosen. They don’t HAVE to be an asshole about their religion, but they are. Whereas Navigator, Polycarp, Triskadecamus, Libertarian, Lauralee, StrTrkr777, cmkeller, sdimbert, and several others on this board alone manage to be obviously religious without ever traveling to Asshole-ville. A fundie is the difference between these people I just listed, and the folks who stand in the middle of a college campus screaming at one another.
