Just some news items that caught my eye and I thought I’d share.
**Hope he runs better **
A Canadian athlete arrived here in Brisbane this week and managed to lose his wallet in his first few minutes in the country at the airport. Although the wallet was later recovered with ID and passport, it was without the cash. Sad story that was printed yesterday but today bought a follow up story of a small Australian businessman who upon reading the story jumped in a car and drove to the Canadian’s training track and gave the athlete $1000 because he didn’t want the guy to think all Australians would do something like that and he wanted him to feel welcome.
Verdict: warm fuzzy feelings
** The Chinese Straight Dope? **
The Chinese have pulled 40 athletes from the Games at the last minute without providing reasons. For those who don’t know there’s quite some feeling between China and Australia on sporting fields with quite a few drug accusations being thrown over the ocean. It’s fact that there has been recent surprise drug testing of Chinese athletes although the results have not been publically released.
Verdict: highly suspicious
