In what film did you first notice & love your favorite movie actor or actress?

Burt Reynolds in Gator

Oh wait, I meant Edward Norton in Primal Fear.

I’d never heard of Day-Lewis before Mohicans, which I went to see only because, when it came out, my best friend was half in love with him and insisted on going to see the movie when it premiered, even though by our alternating-week-movie-pick rules it was my turn. Happily, I loved the movie; unhappily, she hated it but nonetheless had to sit through it.

Halle Berry in “Boomarang”, where she was supposed to be Eddie Murphy’s merely cute girlfriend besides big star Robin Givens lead role.

They had the parts backwards, obviously.

I don’t think so. Robin Givens portrayed the villainess in that story, not Berry. You were supposed to think Murphy’s character was better off with Berry’s character; it is to Berry’s character that he makes his impassioned “I can’t breathe without you” speech at the climax.

I haven’t seen that movie since it came out in theatres, which must be 20 years ago; I have no idea why I remember it so well. I blame the Welsh.

Don’t worry about it. I predicted that the thread would mutate if it lasted at all, so I was preemptively annoyed and am now over it.

I fell for Dennis Quaid in **The Big Easy **in the first shot of him when he turns around with that Grin on his face. Whoa. I still see glimpses of it in him now.

Denzel Washington in Mississippi Masala.

And ditto on Alan Rickman in Truly Madly Deeply and Ewan MacGregor in Moulin Rouge.

Richard Gere in Breathless.

Richard Harris - A Man Called Horse
Audrey Hepburn - My Fair Lady
Helena Bonham Carter - The Corpse Bride
John Wayne - The Cowboys
Johnny Depp - Edward Scissorhand
Marlon Brando - On the Waterfront

I fell for him in “The Nights the Lights went out in Georgia.” He plays a country singer, and he actually sings and plays guitar. Search YouTube for “If You Don’t Know By Now” (a song from the movie). I guarantee it’ll make you smile.

I tend to go in cycles on favorite actors, but I’ll list my current ones:

Alan Rickman: Dogma
Robert Downey Jr.: Iron Man
David Tennant: Doctor Who, or if I must pick a movie, Fright Night (which I sought out to watch after I fell for him in Doctor Who  )
Jeremy Irons: Die Hard With a Vengeance
Julian Sands: Rose Red
Mark Lindsay Chapman: Swamp Thing (TV again) and The Langoliers

Oldman reminds me of Alec Guinness in that regard.

He does a bit of singing in **The Big Easy **too – that Cajun drawl … ::melts

I hadn’t seen **Adrien Brody **till *The Pianist. *Then I had to go back and see all the movies he did before that.

I won’t even mention all my favorite actors who are deceased. There are way too many.

^^^ I love watching him in the Angels In The Outfield film.

God bless you and him always!!!

Holly

I don’t know if she’s my all-time favorite actress ever, but definitely …

Marilyn Monroe in Some Like It Hot, which I saw as an incredibly horny little four-year-old when it was released in 1959. (Freud was right about small children having sexual feelings.)

Somebody told my mother “You shouldn’t take him to see movies like that!” She replied “Oh, he doesn’t know what he’s looking at.”

I was dumbfounded. “Of COURSE I know what I’m looking at! I’m not stupid, you know!”

I learned of him in My Left Foot and it was love at first sight. By the time we got to There Will Be Blood, I was totally his bitch.

I somewhat had this same experience. A good friend of mine turned me on to him, and I began to realize that I already loved him all along, but didn’t realize all the characters I have loved were all the same actor.

Marilyn certainly did have that certain something. I first watched her in Some Like it Hot too.

I met Christoph Waltz in Inglorious Basterds and I have been on his *dick *every since. He owns me.

Pam Grier first got me in Coffy. But since then, I have loved her in everything.

Sid and Nancy

Jean Arthur in “Shane.”

Sarah Polley. I can’t honestly say the first film where I became a fan; I know I saw The Weight of Water, Go, and Guinevere all pretty much at the same time and was smitten.

Are we talking about “favorite actors” meaning “I really like him 'cause he’s kind of dreamy and fun to watch” or “he’s a master of his craft and I’ll see anything he’s in because he elevates it”? I have some examples of both.

I first encountered my imaginary boyfriend, Gerard Butler in a movie called Dear Frankie.

My first notice of Alan Rickman was in Truly, Madly, Deeply

My crush on Robert Downey, Jr. started with Chances Are. He’s dipped his toe into the second category with some nice work in later movies.

I never taped pictures of Robert Duvall in my locker, but have followed him since The Godfather. I noticed him in To Kill a Mocking Bird retroactively.

My first notice of Kate Winslet was in Sense & Sensibility

Emma Thompson became “one to watch” in Dead Again. She was wonderful in The Tall Guy, which she made earlier, but I’m pretty sure I saw later.

When ‘Ripley’ first appeared in “Aliens” it was game, set & match.

I wasn’t super impressed with Kate Winslet in “Titanic” but in “The Reader”… had to wipe my chin.

The Spousoid Unit has declared she will not kick Daniel Day-Lewis out of bed for eating crackers.
