In which a career goal is achieved

I have been working as admin at a fairly busy real estate appraisal firm in the Vancouver area for the past two years, and for the past year have been taking courses towards my commercial certification, and begging for a chance to start articling.

Today, Big Cheese asked me if I would please be ready to start appraising (ie jump through some industry-standard hoops and get my liability insurance) by the beginning of December.

I am still so surprised and excited I Can’t. Sit. Still.

The game plan from here, short-term, is to get all my ducks in a row, and begin appraising in December. I have taken the current semester off to help with my brother’s wedding, and will return to course-work again in January, but as the format is distance-ed, I have some flexibility in scheduling. I will be on salary while I learn the ropes, then will become a contract appraiser in March.

The long-term plan is to finish the commercial credentials (there is already some pressure on me to get the residential certification along the way) and specialize in small-to-medium hospitality properties to the degree that that niche puts food on the table.

So, in a nutshell, Happy Monday’ y’all!

Congratulations!

Here’s hoping everything works out for you.
