In which fashion

Yet another of my sexist threads.
Still, recently at work, we hired a young lady who has an exceptionally lovely face.
Except
…it is punctuated with piercings. Everywhere. And her hair is a mess of short spikes. Raggedy clothes, mixing torn striped shirts with plaid patterns; big-ass black boots and black socks; extreme make-up.
I wondered what she would’ve looked like if she were growing up in “my time” (the '70’s). Long, soft hair. Gauzy dresses. Heels.
Yeah, we also had blue eye shadow and Espadrilles.

I thought fashions in the '60’s were often ridiculous too. I’ve also seen photos going back decades where the ladies were stunning. Rita Hayworth. Lana Turner. Veronica Lake.

I realize fashion is cyclical…I just can’t wait until it’s popular for women to be “pretty” again.

Note: This is in no way a slam against the way anyone looks, either intentionally or not…it is merely an observation.

Does anyone else share these opinions? Or think there is another “era” where women were at their most beautiful?

Y.E.S.!!!

I want to wear skirts and poet blouses and big straw hats!

Don’t leave the guys out of this depressing (but colorful) fashion cycle.

Guys in baggy pants. Shapeless knit shirts, hanging past their waistline.

And hair that’s so short you can’t even tell what color it is, all shaved up the sides and spiky on top.

I dress in earthtones, but not excessive bagginness. I wear some surplus stuff, like British Army sweaters(which look DAMN good!) and a German Army Uniform top. The top has the shoulderboards and medals removed, but it still has the sleeve and lapel markings. It looks awesome when worn properly. Nice and grey. The shoulders are really nice. I think the military has some good surplus fashions!

And instead of buzzcut bleach-tipped hair, mine is a vibrant green. Shatters the preppy look nicely.

I do wish the fashion world would accept being tad more formal though. I want to look sharp without people asking why I am dressed up. This being that I am almost 16, and the people at my school are idiots.

Amen. I like to wear dress slacks and shirts and would like to go through one day of highschool without being asked wear I’m going after school! Just one.
People do not know fashion anymore. I crapped my pants last week when I was asked who Armani was. Alexander Julian… who’s he?

I kinda like the punk look on some girls. It seems to work well on slightly boyish, slim, short(er) girls. It can be quite yummy. Gwen Stefani, anyone? MMMMMmmmmm

I know! No one wears skirts anymore around. Long, flowing skirts are soooo comfortable!

I would love to be able to wear clothes from the 40’s - those dresses would fit my curvy figure perfectly! And hats, slim pants, capris and ballet shoes, ruffled blouses.

Basically, I worship the stylish heels of Lucy Ricardo and Laura Petrie.

Unfortunately, I usually wear nice jeans, bootcut (no shaggy hems) and sweaters, long-sleeved t-shirts, and the ilk. I’m a GAP kid all the way. I own some designer stuff - A/X, DKNY, Anna Sui (a blouse from the early nineties that’s very early 70’s). Nothing too fabulous.

I have a pretty radical jewelry collection though - a lot of Indian/African stuff, cuffs and necklaces and whatnot. They add a nice look to a simple outfit. And I have my eyebrow pierced. (You’ll probably see a pic in the pics from tomorrow’s Dopefest.)

I pay homage to the 40’s with my makeup a lot - berry red lips and blck eyelashes. Nothing is more beautiful, IMHO, than that pin-up picture of Rita Hayworth from that time period. She’s in a silk nightgown, not pushing her boobs forward and not smiling. She’s breattaking (I have the photo in a book of LIFE photos.)
