In which I blandly pit whoever opened my FedEx package

Yeah, that is what we were wondering, too. It was very strange. It’s what happened, though.

Um, yeah that would be a little creepy. Dominic is my 11 year old son. My SO lives about 700 miles away, unfortunately.

First, to find out if it is worth stealing.

Second, taking the box if you do steal it is stupid. The software doesn’t have OpalCat’s name on it. The box does.

OK, Dag, where exactly were you yesterday afternoon, hmmmm? :dubious:

That actually makes sense. The best I could come up with is that taking what was in the box might have been smaller and less suspicious than walking away from someone’s door with a FedEx package.

Nah, still doesn’t make sense. It’s quicker and easier to remove the box and open it at your convenience, and then get rid of the evidence.

e-yep.

Yes, and if I was gonna steal it, I’d take the whole box. But that explanation at least actually sounds plausible, like it may have been what the person was thinking. In any case, it beats the only thing that I could think of.

And you seem to think thieves are logical and intelligent why?

I have another suggestion. Many such things are severely overpacked. If a kid had to take a large box, he couldn’t just tuck it under his hoody, like with a CD.

they’re most often (IME) impulsive, and lack planning, so see a package, grab and run is much more likely than see a package, open it there, remove contents, leave incriminating package at scene of crime.
that’s why the guy who breaks into cars by smashing the window rarely stops to check to see it unlocked, or (in the case of my husband’s truck) realizes that the window he’s smashing is the drivers side window of the same truck whose passenger side window he broke a minute before.

That is the only thing I could come up with on my own (that the disc was smaller/less conspicuous than the whole box). The box was about 5" x 10" x 14" or so, and the software was probably just a shrinkwrapped disc without much packaging (it was OEM packaging, not the full retail version) if it’s the same way as ones I’ve gotten in the past from them.

Or maybe he was just a tweaker.

In my experience with speed freaks, there’s no real method to their madness. It makes sense to them at the time, so they do it.

Anyway, my condolances on your lost package. I sent a fedex to a friend of mine in Rhode Island and they dumped it on her porch - she lives in an enclosed apartment building, so they basically dumped it on the sidewalk. Of course, it got stolen, and there was like $300 worth of stuff in there. Fedex wouldn’t back down, either, because I hadn’t requested signature service - they didn’t tell me I had to request it.

In conclusion, Fedex sucks. :frowning:

This is why I’ve started having things delivered to me at work instead of at home.

I can see that being a good idea. (I can’t–I’m a student)
