We had a string of murders here a few years ago, though I think they finally caught the guy who did it in another province. And the founder of Dawson College’s gay group was bashed to death, too, IIRC.
I heard about it a lot more when I was in BC, though. Though at least I haven’t seen the same kind of harassment by police I saw in Vancouver. I wouldn’t be afraid to go to the police here.
