In which new hobby would you indulge, if you made "a bit more money"?

Boating. Well, canoeing and such first, but later (when the real money came in) sailing and such.

Plus, overuse of “and such” would be a great hobby.

Brendon Small

Jeez, I forgot about fencing! I’m a sabre fan myself, but I don’t have the time or money for it.
Medieval style sword fighting would be fun, too.

Well, that’s one way to beat the cost of real estate in Dublin, ain’t it?

Yeah, time’s the problem here. I have enough hobbies and can’t take on another one. Not that I’m drowning in hobbies, I just sew a lot mostly. But maybe I would get a slightly bigger house and have a sewing studio-type area? 'Cause we could use a little more space, really.

I’m serious here. I would start a lab and do synthetic chemistry if I could afford it. Not just any chemistry, but the chemistry I thought of and designed. Eventually, I think I would make money, but the starting costs are just too high. Chemistry is my art.

Taking things to the ground a little…

With just a little more money and time I´d like to take a course and start diving; so far I´ve been limited (but quite happy with it!) to go snorkelling every time I go to the beach, but I´d like to expand the territory (aquatory?) a little.
As a matter of fact I do have the money and time for it, but I want my GF to join me so I just duplicated the budget and timing becomes troublesome…

I´d also like to set up a proper hobby work shop for building my model planes; I´m about to buy a new mini drill with accesories, not the crappy ones I can find here, but a good, precision one. Not much really, but it´s a small step in that direction.

Strategy board gaming (like all the really expensive cool ones you see at boardgamegeek.com) and the painting of the included miniatures.

Let’s see…I’d learn to really be able to sew. I’d get my fish tank done the way I want it and as big as I want it (www.monsterfishkeepers.com)

I’d have a dedicated game room for all those fabulous games (Arkham Horror, etc) that take up huge amounts of space and time. AND a workshop to be able to make my own games/modifications.

The biggest hobby though? I’d spend the rest of my life in school.

And just once, I’d like to land on African soil.

Oh, so many to choose, but as others have said, time is a problem too.

Sailing

Archery

Photography/Painting/Drawing (this is more time than money, a current hobby I’d like to do more of)

Studying languages

Travel, if you can consider that a hobby

Restoring old buildings, also if you consider that a hobby. I love history, I love architecture, this is something I’d absolutely love. It’s something I’ve considered trying to pursue as a career once I finish school. Either way, I’d love to purchase and restore a historic building when I’m ready to buy a home.

Ooh. Cool.

I’d build a model railway, and a wonderfully intricate environment for it to travel through.

I’d get my FFL, build myself an 10-lane, rifle and pistol rated indoor range, and build a comprehensive arsenal for myself. I’d have an example of pretty much anything you could think of, all fully documented with the ATF (if required) and appropriately secured, with a fully modern bullet trap and lead dispersal system for safety and health reasons.

Maybe I’d go through the appropriate channels and make it a family-friendly public access, controlled exposure business so that people can come to find out that shooting is actually fun and not the lunacy that people like Sarah Brady make it out to be. The only cost to the shooters would be ammunition and an hour afterwards to clean the weapon under supervision.

That is, of course, if by a “bit more money” you mean “win the friggin’ Lottery”. I figure I could make myself happy for life for a mere $5-10 million factoring in the average $10,000 price of Class III (automatic) weapons, unlimited ammunition, the facilities and security system, administrative fees, land, taxes, etc. That should hold me in good stead for perpetuity.

I’ve got a couple I’d really like to get into…

  • Antique guns. Blackpowder stuff, more specifically. And originals, not modern replicas. I’d love an 1853 Enfield, a Beaumont-Adams revolver, a Brown Bess, a Matchlock arquebus, and all manner of other really, really old firearms.

  • Model trains. I’d love to have a whole basement set up with model railway lines and villages and tunnels and lakes, and run an entire network of trains on them. Yes, I’ve got the Railroad Tycoon games on my computer, but they’re just not the same, dammit!

  • Helicopters. I’d love to get my pilot’s licence and learn to fly helicopters (or any aircraft, for that matter). But since you have to have your own Scrooge McDuck style Money Bin before you can even think paying for all the lessons etc, I’ll have to stick to Flight Simulators on the PC, alas.

I’d get my own quarry

You sure got the right username for that.

here’s a vid of the quarry I had access to. It got sold, so no more dynamiting for me :frowning:

Time rather than money.

I’d get heavily into volunteering for historical railway preservation.

With a bit more money, I’d work less so that I could practise the hobbies I already have.

I’d only pour more money into the main hobby I have at the moment, which is historical research (which also earns for me the money which I use to pour into …etc etc)

I’m already having fun. More readies would mean just multiplying that, and still paying the bills.

Making mead. That’s for after I buy a house, as moving around all the time isn’t really conducive to storing it. If I really hit the jackpot, probably growing fruit and making homemade fruit wines, too.
