In which new hobby would you indulge, if you made "a bit more money"?

Electronic music.

I wouldn’t acquire any new hobbies I don’t think, but I’d go back into my comic book collection and fill in some gaps. I haven’t collected any new comics for well over a decade but I enjoy re-reading some of the older titles and I’d like to have complete runs of some of them. I’d probably also, depending on how much more money “a bit” is, move up to a little bit higher limit poker games.

I work at a flight school. $140/hour for a 172 and you must prove you carry your own insurance before you can rent it. Add $45/hour for a CFI and you can figure around 200 bucks per lesson.

Marginally interesting sidenote: I picked up a brand new Cessna 172 from the factory last month (I will eventually get around to a MPSIMS thread about it). Price? $254,000. Yep, it’s gotten a bit more expensive since 75.
Oh, and back to the OP: For me; I wanna start sailing.

Beekeeping. In New Zealand.

Flying helicopters.

Blowing stuff up.

Really kick ass boat to do more wakeboarding.

Tropical island to learn the fine art of grass hut building. Gotta be easier than houses.

I would, and I would do it if I had more money. I really want to travel internationally, but it’s so expensive.

If grad school could be considered a hobby, I’d like to go back.

My Wife and I where talking about this last night. We recently looked at retirement options and what we might be doing. The good news is that we may be able to retire a bit early.

Right now, my hobby is remodeling, and taking care of the house. I don’t really consider it a hobby of sorts. But it is what I enjoy. Sounds silly, but if I had more money and time, I’d be gutting the downstairs bathroom.

Sailing. I think I could get into sailing. My brother has a 26’ McGregor. Though he doesn’t use it.

I like 4-wheeling. But my Wife gets sort of seasick. I wouldn’t mind having something close to a roadable rock-crawler. A mid 70’s FJ40 would be just fine. Then go gold panning. Sadly, many 4x4 trails are getting more and more restricted. I understand it though.

Gardening. I’d love to have a nice veggie garden. Can’t do it where I live, but I love living here. That may be a trade off when we get to old to handle the mountains.

Travel. That’s going to be it I think. My Wife and I travel very well together.

Flying. I could afford to do it in the States, but Japan is too expensive. Japanese will go over the States, live there for a month and get a private pilot license, and it is cheaper than doing it here.

Your wish has been granted! you will land on African soil…

Cue Twilight Zone music

… unfortunately, you should have specified how you would land.
FFWWWOOOOMMPHHH!!!*

*That´s the sound of a gigantic trebouchet flinging a human being.

Golf. I got back into golf a few years ago, and had a great time working on my game. Then lack of time intruded, then lack of money, and now I haven’t been to play golf for a couple of years.

Target shooting. Another sport I used to do a lot of, but it was expensive since I wasn’t making much at the time. A bit more money would allow me to re-equip myself and join a club again.

Hang Gliding. Or possibly paragliding.

Showing horses. I’d buy an expensive new horse, go to a fancy barn with an $$$ trainer, get all new equipment and clothes…

PS - and a truck & trailer.

Is going to hostess bars a hobby?

Oh, well, if you’re going to count travel as a hobby…

I was going to fight ignorance on this one, then I had a look at the american prices. Sorry I said anything (is there some sort of penalty tax on imported toy soldiers, or is it the weak dollar?) Although, you can get a fully playable army for a lot less than $150 (a Battleforce is $90, cost above that depends on how much you want to spend on hobby supplies).

I’d probably get seriously into medieval or roman reenactment. Ï’m just a dabbler at the moment. I’d love authentic medieval shoes, a propper gladius, a store-bought helmet, wool in every colour, tortoise broches…

I could’ve sworn I already posted this! Weird…

Anyway, if I made enough money, I would travel around the world tasting all kinds of beers from different regions, especially the UK, Germany and Belgium. And if I made enough money, I would buy all kinds of art that spoke to me. I often wander through art exhibits and stores going “Damn, if only I had a few thousand dollars lying around…”

I’ve always been interested in doing magician’s illusions. It’s never been realistic since the major illusions start at $1000 and go up quickly. I know I could buy small sleight-of-hand tricks for little money, but they just don’t look very impressive to me. I would love to buy some illusions and then do magic shows for friends, community centers, etc.

Eating.
I mean going to fine restaurants, the kinds that all the epicurean magazines profile. I’d love to be able to visit the top restaurants in Chicago, New York, Paris, Rome and London. I’d sample the wares at El Bulli in Spain or Pierre Gagnaire in Paris. Instead I get the baby back ribs at Chili’s. :frowning:

Sewing, Cooking, Traveling.

Right now, my sewing machines are broken, I can’t afford material, I have no room in my kitchen, I can’t afford groceries, and my husband never takes me anywhere.

So yeah. Them three.
