In the lobby of our building, on the elevator to the garage, is a sign that says “Elevator Out Of Order! Please Take Stairs.” And when I walked through the lobby there were not one, not to, but three people punching the elevator button as if there were no tomorrow.
Anyone else seen any instances of people with an inability to grasp the obvious lately?
I understand all the words, they just don’t make sense together like that.
“Did you fall?” said the concerned citizen as I lay in a heap at the bottom of the train platform stairs.
I was pretty pissed and bruised, but the lady was sincere and she made me smile

Every day I put people on a treadmill for stress tests. At least one a week will look down at the belt moving between their legs after I say, “OK, you may step on whenever you’re ready.” and they’ll say, “How?”
I would point out, for the benefit of those who are confused by the very concept of “door”, that if a door is marked “Push”, pulling on it, then repeatedly continuing to pull harder on the door’s handle, will do very little good. Following the clearly marked instructions on the door will allow you to continue on to your destination (should you actually have one in mind).
I mean, really. Didn’t we cover this in kindergarten?
We have a major painting company here in the Bay Area that paints a lot of public buildings/poles/signs/etc. They have a sign that they put up that says in large bold letters, “NO FOOLING! The paint is really wet.” I can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen people touch the wall or pole or whatever just to see for themselves. Like it’s all just a big joke being played by some demonic company. “Nope, you’re not gonna’ fool me. No sir. I know this paint isn’t really wet. Look here and see…oooops.”
You know how people seem to always try to open doors marked “use other door?” (Yes yes, I do it too.)
I heard somewhere that the reason that people do that is because they are looking at the “use other door” sign, and they automatically reach out for the door that they are looking at. It was suggested that a better approach would be to put a sign on the other door saying “use THIS door.” Wonder if anybody’s ever tried it.
