Many years ago, I worked at the same regional newspaper with a guy who eventually became a senior executive at Fox. He just ‘retired’ … he was always a very conservative guy, but was also a very good reporter back in the day and I think he was one of the ones who was trying to keep them from completely throwing themselves over the edge. Nothing to stop 'em now, I guess.
John Legend has a voice as smooth as silk. Man, he is so good.
I’m watching on PBS. No commercials.
Why does Tom look like he had his jaw wired almost shut?
Oh, huh. Are there commercial-sized gaps that PBS is filling with other content, or is the whole thing commercial free and ABC on Hulu is just running commercials over half of it?
Great joint statement by Obama, Bush, and Clinton about the importance of a peaceful transfer of power.
I think he’s freezing his butt off.
I only watched the following: a) Trump’s departure to Elba, or wherever the hell he’s going, b) Biden’s Zoom meeting to swear in the White House staff, c) Jen Psaki’s first press briefing (hey, anyone remember the quaint ritual of daily press briefings?) I’m sure the variety show was very nice, but I was TV’d out by that point.
I didn’t feel I was missing anything by not watching the Presidential swearing in ceremony. You know why? Because I was dead certain that Biden wasn’t going to do the political equivalent of biting the head off a bat onstage. Unlike a previous, recent resident of the White House I could name.
Anybody else thinking “Joe, please get inside” during the fireworks finale?
No gaps. Continuous content- performers, video, statements prerecorded from people all over the country.
Happy New Year everyone!! It was a long December but 2020 is finally over!
I did not cry all day. I watched His Ickyness fly off thinking that witnessing the worst president ever was finally gone and I could maybe feel some relief.
Kamala and Joe were sworn in, and I was okay.
It wasn’t until tonight’s fireworks that I let all of the stress of the last four years fall away. It really felt like finally leaving an abusive relationship that you knew all along was not good for your health.
I’ve been crying for ten minutes. And it feels good.
I look forward to waking up tomorrow without that heavy heart that I’ve felt every morning since Nov 2016. To knowing that the country is right where I left it when I went to bed.
It was great sharing the day with fellow Dopers! 'Night, y’all.
I think they used every firework in the United States! Wow, that was amazing.
No commercials on msnbc.
I really enjoyed the Celebrating America show. I’m not American, but it was great to see a celebration of America from all parts of the USA and celebrities as well as ordinary people, rather than news items on inaugural balls in Washington. I’d like to see this as a tradition on inaugural days.
Thanks for starting the thread. Sleep well.
Anderson Cooper interviewed Amanda Gorman, the poet laureate. She’s super impressive. She had a speech impediment where she couldn’t pronounce r’s until a couple years ago. She says that she doesn’t think in pictures; she thinks in words and text. And she likes the idea of being President in 2036.
Wait… is that considered unusual?
Sorry, that wasn’t right. I went back and heard it again. She said that she doesn’t “work” in images. She works in words and text. That makes more sense. I misheard it the first time and thought it was odd as well which is why I wrote that.
Sleep tight. It was lovely sharing the bright new day with all of you. I’d forgotten what a deep breath felt like.

Well, no, my point is that it sounds NORMAL to me, so I didn’t get what was remarkable.
