Inblourious Gasterds Mafia

If we do indeed have Scum, a Scum team than cannot kill would be very unfair.

With two kills for N1,2,3, the odds of having two, and only two tied night kill/vote leaders three nights running are rather slim - so your alternate hypothesis is unlikely.

But having the top two vote-getters being killed is still possible, ain’t it?

I assert there is no scum - partly because, if I’m the scum threat, I’m not scum. I’m an SK. Like you.

Then 2 people should have died last night

I’ve played in a couple of gastardly games, and the one thing that I havent seen gastardised is the the actual card flip. Whatever our PM’s say, whatever we flip when we are dead is what we actually are. So:

Theory X

  • the card flips are correct - we just don’t know our real roles
  • we have no idea if AllWalker actually got told anything for investigations
  • On N2 I targeted FS, the same night Nanook did, so maybe Nanook did protect him

Theory Y

  • your death alignment is determined by the number of kill votes you get
  • get more than half the available kill votes you flip scum
  • otherwise you flip town
  • this holds water for FS’s death, and looks like it may for Mahaloth, but makes it very hard for a scum win. Indeed, no motivation for a scum win - with the current vote I’ll probably flip town.

Well, BillMC, it seems you will be lynched toDay.

For the rest of us, I propose to announce whom we will “kill” toNight. According to Zeriel’s alphabetical ordering, I propose:

I “kill” Zeriel
Zeriel “kills” ZSophia
ZSophia “kills” me

All agreed?

I agree. (And don’t you see why I tried to kill Zeriel first? Too confusing!)

Isn’t this Day over yet?

When do the Days end in this thing anyway?

Now.

The Day was mostly spent with the Villagers claiming to be psychopatic serial killers and indicating who they each targeted for kills over the previous night. It was hypothesized that the card flips couldn’t be trusted, but BillMC disagreed, saying that it was the roles that couldn’t be trusted, and the card flips were true. BillMC was the chosen lynch candidate, somewhat for his minority opinions, but also because he was the first to get the most votes of the two tied candidates.

DiggitCamara and ZSofia held him in place.

“How do we want to kill him?” asked ZSofia.

“I don’t think we have to worry too much about that. I imagine yet another deus ex machina killing method like all the other lynches will present itself,” said Diggit.

As if in confirmation, an arrow from seemingly knowhere thudded into BillMC’s chest, peircing his heart. Written on the arrow was “Good Shot”. As the blood began to flow, a second arrow slammed into BillMC’s chest splitting the first one. Written on the arrow was the phrase: “Your shot was good. My shot was better.” There was also a string tied to the end of the second arrow. The string ran through a hole punched in a playing card. As the last remnant of life left Bill’s eyes, the other Villagers looked at the card. On it was written:

BillMC - Mafia Goon

Night begins now and will end no later than 3 P.M. Wednesday CDT. All night actions need to be into me by then.

If you are okay with ending night early upon all Night actions being in, let me know via PM.

You killed three mafia guys in 5 days!

You guys are doing great, keep it up!

NAF, someday I’m going to get you for this.

I love how keeps blaming you, NAF, when I’m the one who set this whole thing up.

(Told you I’m the good cop.)

Yeah, but I don’t have a longstanding vendetta against you for poorly-defined reasons involving lists and pie.

You had to bring up the list.

I am taking away all your points for that. We’ll see how you fair tomorrow without any points. Don’t try to stop me Hoopy, it’s already been done!

smacks NAF right in the face with a pie. Whole squid cream pie to be exact

It was a new dawn. The sky was blue; the sun was bright; the town was eerily quiet. The events of the past few days were over. Death reigned over all…well, not quite. In the village square stood a lone figure greeting the coming day. At the figure’s feet were two lifeless bodies, each with a facedown card taped to it’s chest. The figure turned the card on its left over. It read:

DiggitCamara - Town Roleblocker

The figure then turned over the card on the right. It read:

Zeriel - Mafia Goon

Two dead. One living.

Zsofia knew she had targeted DiggitCamara, though, oddly enough, like every other night, she couldn’t remember exactly how she pulled off the kill. Not that it really mattered. She had survived. It was time to move on.

Zsofia checked to make sure she had all of her belongings and walked to the front gate. She opened the gate and was about to leave the town for good, when two figures stepped out of a nearby building.

“I wouldn’t do that if I were you,” the first one said.

“Why not?” she asked.

“Because first of all, there’s nothing but barren desert for 20 miles in any direction, and you have no water,” answered the second. “But more importantly, we’ll shoot you dead if you even try.”

“Who are you? Why do you care?”

Rather than answer the question, the first figure flicked a playing card through the air in Zsofia’s direction. She snatched it deftly out of the air and looked at it. On it was written:

Zsofia - Town Vanilla

“Keep it. It’s yours as a souvenir from the recent events,” explained the first.

“So it was you guys handing out the cards!” Zsofia exclaimed. “I know I’m really a Serial Killer, so we guessed right. All the card flips are false!”

“Yes. You were right,” confirmed the second. “All of you were Serial Killers. And for that matter so were we at one point. I’m NAF1138, and my colleague is Hoopy Frood.”

“See…” Hoopy explained. "You’ve been a part of an experiment that itself is part of a larger experiment and psychological study. You volunteered for it, even. Though, you probably don’t remember, since most of your memory of the events was wiped. In fact, almost all your memories were wiped. You don’t even know what year it is–it’s 2525, for your information–but that’s okay, because the life you once knew doesn’t exist anymore anyway. It officially became property of the State upon your conviction of multiple murders two months ago. Over the past century or so, there has been a significant upswing in the number of serial killers that have crawled out of the woodwork. No one seems to know why. Serial Killers always exsited, but never at the level they have recently. Some nutters say it’s the water, but that’s always the first thing blamed. We don’t know what is causing it, but one of the things we do know is it’s not the water. Anyway, at first they locked everyone up. However, they were filling up prisons way too quickly, and they became dangerous places for both the inmates and the guards. At first it seemed the only option was to reinstate the death penalty for all Serial Killers. Naturally, there was significant opposition to this. But at the same time, keeping them in prisons wasn’t a very good solution either. So one day this guy has an idea that instead of having the State execute them directly, why don’t we study them instead. That way we can use their behavior to understand why they are how they are, and possibly figure out what made them that way and how to cure it. Sure, it’s in essence just a modified death penalty, but through it, society might be able to eliminate the factors that lead to Serial Killing in the first place. So places like this were set up–giant arenas. Some natural, some manmade. A group of convicted serial killers are relocated to each arena and battle for the last man standing. All have volunteered for the competition. But it’s a Hobson’s Choice. If they don’t volunteer, the State executes them after the conviction anyway. This at least gives them a chance to go down swinging, and maybe even get an offical stay of execution. And that’s where our organization comes in.

“It was set up by the State to conduct and monitor the experiments. Most of the workers in the beginning were scientists, particularly psychologists. They conducted the initial experiments in a framework that is still largely in use today, 12 years later. Each Serial Killer has most of his memories wiped, but his personality is left intact. He is told that he will be placed in a community where a recent band of Mafia members have infiltrated and are trying to take over the community. The community itself has banded together to expose the mafia by lynching one member of the community during each day. At night, the Mafia will choose a member of the community to kill, and the various Town powers will use their abilities to aid in sniffing out the Mafia. The Serial Killer is informed that he is to hide among the community at large during the day, and to choose a target to kill at night. He is to write this target name down in a journal as a record of who he targets. However, there are no Town or Scum. The entire community is Serial Killers, typically around 15 people. Each night, instead of actually killing, the Serial Killers are all put to sleep, whereby those running the experiment look at each’s journal and record who that killer planned to target. Typically, the two top targets get killed by the conductors. Ties are decided largely on the whim of the conductors, but usually based on who got more votes in previous days and nights. Upon death of a player either by lynch or nightkill, a card is found, either placed there by the conductors before the kill or via some machination of the conductors whim. This card lists the predesignated Town or Mafia cover role that was assigned that player. The overall goal is to whittle the numbers down to 3 players going into the final night. Where either they will circle target each other, and everyone dies. Or one of them will not be targeted, in which case that person wins. In your case, Zeriel decided to double cross you guys and target DiggitCamara, leaving you untouched.”

“Interesting…” Zsofia ruminated. “So what now?”

“Well…” Hoopy continued, "…when the game is over the sole winner, if there is one, is then given another Hobson’s choice: either she works for us, or she gets executed. No matter what happens, all activity from the social experiment is recorded and the conductors deliver a final report, which is all stored in a database from which the scientists examine the results.

"But why would we hire you, you might be wondering? Well, in the beginning, all these experiments were conducted by the original scientists. However, they had the stomach for the research and observation, but really didn’t have the stomach for the killing. It was decided pretty early that the best thing to do with the surviving serial killers was to put them to work as conductors. They don’t have to be conductors, but it sure beats most of the other jobs they’ll be stuck slaving away at for the rest of their lives should they choose to join the company. It’s how NAF1138 and I came to be the conductors of this experiment. Both of us were surviors of our own respective experiments, back when the cover roles tended to be a bit more complex. But understand, you are, and will always be, a prisoner. A cortex bomb is installed. Should you try to escape, it will trigger. You will be monitored just about everywhere you go. Should you so much as break the law even a little, your cortex bomb will trigger. Should you try to hide, your cortex bomb will trigger. The only place you are given any privacy is your bedroom, which consists of nothing more than a bed, toilet, sink, and shower.

"But that being said, if you can handle the fact that you will unlikely ever be free–at least until they figure out if there’s a cure–and will be watched almost constantly, it’s not a bad gig. First of all, you get to live. You get three square meals a day. You get a great medical plan. There’s a gym, a spa, a pool, unlimited internet, satellite TV and radio, etc. Basically all your basic needs and simple luxuries are covered. Plus, you get to indulge your psychotic tendencies by running these experiments.

“Don’t worry, though, you don’t have to make your choice now–unless you try to escape, in which case we are authorized to kill you. You will be briefed, and at that time you can make your choice. If you choose to die, it will be painless, which is more than can be said for what your earlier compatriots got to go through.”

“Speaking of, what will happen to their bodies?” inquired Zsofai.

“They will be tagged with their card flips and the cleanup crew will remove all evidence of what transipired. A description of the evidence gets added into the database for this experiment, and then all physical evidence is destroyed,” answered NAF1138. “Now if you’ll permit us, we have to escort you to the briefing room.”

NAF1138 pulled out what looked like a remote and pressed a button. A trap door opened up in the ground of the Village square and revealed a stark white staircase heading down. ZSofia headed toward it, followed by NAF1138 and Hoopy Frood.

“One more thing,” said Zsofia. “What cover roles were you two given when you played the game?”

NAF1138 reached into his pocket and pulled out another playing card. He held it towards Zsofia. On it was written:

NAF1138 - Chia Bingo Manager

Hoopy Frood then reached into his pocket and pulled out his own card, holding it out. Zsofia saw these words written on it:

Hoopy Frood - Top Dog

The three disappeared down the staircase, the trap door closing behind them. The Village was officially empty, save a lone tumbleweed that seemed to almost saunter through the death scene that had been left in their wake.

Congratulations to Zsofia. Who was the sole serial killer to win the game!

The spoiler board is here: http://scumboard.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=gasterds

For now you have to register, but NAF should make the board open.

Also, the password (which NAF should also remove) is: hahaha

Congrats! But wait, I’m confused. If Zeriel double crossed and killed Diggit, and so did Zsofia, then why did Zeriel die, too?

Diggit got two votes, Zeriel got one, and Zsofia got zero. Or were you just doing the top two?

Heh, I hate three-way ties anyway.

Congrats to ZSofia.

Also, points and laughs at Zeriel
