Sorry Goobbeem, I whooshed myself. I missread your earlier post!
ok, agreed then.
And re: the Westermark effect, isn’t that what the OP tried to rebunk?
'dyou ever google incest?
It’s not easy researching this.
two words, SimonX: adult filter
Makes sense to me. Think of this situation: A brother and sister are seperated at 1 or 2 years old. The brother is raised with a different family, in a different city. The brother and sister meet when they are both grown up, and start dating. They have no idea that they are siblings. If they have sex, then it is incest. Is there any built in biological mechanism that would prevent this from happening?
I agree with you 100 percent, but I would amend that to be ANY sexual relationship between and adult and a child, not just an incestuous one.
not in humans, the link by Surreal gives evidence of processes preventing this in other animals (quail).
According to that site, humans have to work with the innate aversion against having sex with people they grew up with. Sex with an adopted sibling should according to this theory, be just as icky as sex with a biological sibling.
I’m moving this thread to Great Debates.
I don’t see anything inherently wrong with two consenting adults having sexual relations with one another, even if they just happened to be born into the same family.
IMHO, is it indicative of emotional problems? Probably. Does it cause ickiness between family members not involved in the relationship? I bet it does.
I’ve never heard a sound argument for (consensual) incest being morally wrong.
And the studies of the mate-selection habits of the Kibbutzim bears this out.
Right, and in a modern day ethics that defines the morally right mostly in terms of doing no harm to your fellow man, it is hard to make such an argument. After all, it is consensual sex, not.
Th burden of proof lies in showing that incest can never be really consensual, because of the special relationship between family members. I think this is probably the case, but until someone makes the argument tick, that remains a believ.
I always find completely bizarre the amount of porn/erotica/men’s (usually) sexual fantasy jokes concerning “sisters”. Or even closer - twins.
Threesomes all well and good, but isn’t it still incest if two sisters get it on together?
zanmundy, welcome to the SDMB.
We prefer new threads be started rather than reviving very old ones. I’ll lock this one and we’ll just let it drop off the page.
