Apparently I’ve hurt or confused a banned poster who sent me an incoherent poison-pen letter. I’m not worried or concerned as much as amused and a bit befuddled.
What I got was a bunch of forwarded e-mails from other people about other responses to the chain letter (a vaguely amusing joke) and, at the top, he posted “Heres to your opinion Bitch” (which matches his debating style). It’s bizarre: the first dadaesque poison-pen letter I’ve ever gotten. I’m kind of charmed by it.
What’s funny is he was obviously reading the chain letter, some neuron clicked in his brain and he was suddenly overpoweringly offended by what I’d said before he was banned (several weeks ago, minimum…and I’m not sure what I said in particular) that he hit “reply” and typed in my address, rather than hitting the “send new e-mail” button.
Dunno if this is the same person, but I just got an email (which was also sent to a few other Dopers) from one who had “Libertarian” as part of the email. I know darn well it’s not “our” Libertarian, though.
Pretty snotty - even “threatened” us with banning.
I just got the Faux-Libertarian one too! I’m getting quite the collection!
The phony, “I know how edumacated people talk. Lemee try tuh sound like them” fake-formal language is a hoot! But it’s not as surreal as the first one.
I’ve had a couple of mildly insulting emails from members/ex-members (but not recently).
Sound (and somewhat obvious) advice (IMHO) in these situations:
[ul][li]Forward the message to an admin (for information, if nothing else)[/li][li]Do not respond to the sender[/li][li]Block the sender (if your mail client permits this)[/li][/ul]
I’m all with Jjimm here - feeling left out. Can we have a peek please? (I know - don’t mock the afflicted. But what ** Fenris ** describes as The phony, “I know how edumacated people talk. Lemee try tuh sound like them” fake-formal language is a hoot! But it’s not as surreal as the first one. … sounds too good to be true. I could use a chuckle.
