Inconsistency when Bush was told about the World Trade Centre attacks ?

Appologies if this has been covered before but the Whitehouse web site says this:

"Q
One thing, Mr. President, is that you have no idea how much you’ve done for this country. And another thing is that, how did you feel when you heard about the terrorist attack? (Applause.)

THE PRESIDENT: Thank you, Jordan. Well, Jordan, you’re not going to believe what state I was in when I heard about the terrorist attack. I was in Florida. And my Chief of Staff, Andy Card – actually, I was in a classroom talking about a reading program that works. I was sitting outside the classroom waiting to go in, and I saw an airplane hit the tower – the TV was obviously on. And I used to fly, myself, and I said, well, there’s one terrible pilot. I said, it must have been a horrible accident.

But I was whisked off there, I didn’t have much time to think about it. And I was sitting in the classroom, and Andy Card, my Chief of Staff, who is sitting over here, walked in and said, “A second plane has hit the tower, America is under attack.”

But im sure thats not how i remember the story. I thought he was being told about the 1st plane attack in the school. Also the 1st attack was not shown untill much later so did bush see it, put it down to a bad accident which didnt need his immediate attention and carry on with his shool visit?

This may be my mistake so could anyone expand on this inconsistency for me ?

sin

Indeed, he could not have seen the first plane actually crash on TV since the only footage was from a French documentary team, which didn’t appear for quite some time. He probably saw footage of the smoking first tower with a caption “Plane crashes into WTC” or something. At that time it did appear to be an accident; horrific, yes, but perhaps not necessarily requiring instant hold to be put on all presidential business.

A little mental mix-up on his part, I think, in the midst of hostile and perceptive probing at the hands of a group of 6 year-olds.

It’s no doubt been discussed to death here.

Fucktard though he is, I believe in this case he probably was simply stating that he saw on the tv that a plane HAD crashed into the first tower, not that he actually witnessed the event.
