increasingly sophisticated sex dolls for men

This is just the beginning. The day is coming when the availability of very realistic sex dolls is going to pose a serious challenge to society… that is, the female half of society who are going to have to compete with them.

This is an aspect of the technology which I never see discussed. Right now the dolls only appeal to a minority of men. What happens when they become really good? (Not “if”… when.) Real women will have to compete with them, possibly requiring some rather significant changes in what is expected from real women in a relationship.
I’d say the future bodes rather well for men.

At the end of the day, it’s still just masturbation. It can’t replace a real human relationship, and it can’t even replace real sex.

Skip all that, about the relationships and all. Let’s talk finance. Does that doll bring in a paycheck? Does she elevate your financial level so you can buy a home in a neighborhood you couldn’t afford on your own?

A family is a partnership in more ways than just the sex. Sure, I think things might change but I can’t really see the dolls becoming mainstream.

How is that different from males competing with the Magic Wand?

Do they have male dolls for women? Umm, actually gay men would be the market for those wouldn’t they…

And the one linked in the OP is firmly in the Uncanny Valley.

Relevant video.

If I for one were still single I’d be living in my two-bedroom bachelor cottage with the mortgage paid off and enough money in the bank to effectively retire this year, and plenty of toys besides. It’d be hard to find a doll that was a bigger money sink than a wife. :stuck_out_tongue:

So far as sex goes, it’s probably best if I, like, never mention the subject again.

Don’t get me wrong, but I’m not sure I’d want my sex bot to talk. < shudder >

Yeah, I assumed that was the point of a sex doll? All the pokey-pokey with out the blah-blah?

If the AI in the sexbots gets good enough to compete with real women, we’ll probably not be *too *far off from recognising them as people in their own right.

I mean, Roxxxy (stupid name) is really just a chatbot plugged into a realdoll. To replace real women, the sexbot is at least going to have to move, and be more aware of her surroundings than just responding to touch and speech. Like visual recognition, emotion recognition, that sort of thing. Couple that with *enough *AI to not come off like ELIZA’s sluttier cousin (“Why do you want to put your cock into me?”:)), and you’re heading into some real gray areas, I think.

Hmm, one of the personalities is Frigid Farrah. Yeah, I’d willingly pay $7000 for a sex doll that won’t have sex with me.

Ladies, you are in no danger of being replaced.

She looks a little like Catherine Tate on morphine after her plastic surgery went awry.

So yeah, I’d do her.

The AI will not have to be that sophisticated.

I would say that for many men, “compete with real women” would mean (1) physically lifelike, and (2) AI just sophisticated to be convincing replications of porn-film characters.

They wouldn’t have to imitate “real women” per se.

That is, the Turing Test for sexbots would be: can you tell the difference between a real hooker and a bot? When that line is crossed, sex bots will as common as, say, motorcycles. Not for everyone, maybe, but for many.

Men pay women (and other men) for sex, period. now suppose you could have a live-in whore for the cost of an automobile, maybe less, a whore who is always available to do whatever, whenever. With changeable hair, faces, body shapes.

It will have social consequences. It won’t just be something that a few people do in the privacy of their homes and the rest of us can ignore.

Until a sex bot can console you while you mourn the loss of a loved one or bear your children and help raise your family they don’t present any kind of threat to women. Besides, you can’t damage a live woman’s circuits by jizzing on her fuse box. :stuck_out_tongue:

Ha. Understood, but if I was single I could not afford the rent on this rather nice ranch house. I’d be living somewhere in downtown Albany in a one bedroom apartment.

And I have my toys, too. As does he. It all depends on this partnership.

Maybe you just haven’t met the right man yet.

I think if a man would rather have a doll than me, I’d rather he had a doll, too.

So basically you’re saying that men just want women for sex and nothing else. That’s a perspective that says more about you than it does about men as a group.

Looks familiar….

Sex is one of the things men want from women. And if that could be provided elsewhere, that particular motivation is less. There are already guys out there that spend more time with prostitutes than they do with other women. If you make it cheaper, it’s gonna become much easier to go mainstream.

I’d say a great comparison would be porn itself. What this doll would essentially be is 3D tactile porn. And you know how popular porn is, even in guys in committed relationships.

And, yes, I got all this from the post you derided. I could say that the fact that you just assumed it was misogynist says a lot about you. But I refuse to judge someone for a single post they make on a message board.
