Some store clerk in Washington state has claimed that she saw a pregnant woman matching the description of missing Laci Peterson sometime around New Year’s. The clerk said the pregnant woman told her she had been kidnapped and asked her to call police. The clerk then got distracted (perhaps the customer right after had a lot of coupons), and forgot until she saw Laci’s picture on the news.
It seems pretty clear to me that the clerk is completely full of it. What do you suppose the clerk felt she had to gain by lying about this? I understand that people are after notoriety, but why would you want to gain fame as, not only as a liar, but a really bad one?
