Infinity war 'seen it' thread (spoilers)

It was actually “The Other” who did that. Loki might very well have not known that Thanos was “The Other”'s master.

How it escaped Thanos’s notice that someone in his employ actually had one of the stones is pretty perplexing.

My mistake. I think I skipped that movie :o

I suspect Thanos did know Loki had the stone, and decided to leave it where it was, where he knew it was, to collect later.

One detail I found annoyingly implausible is the idea that the Scarlet Witch could destroy one of the stones. I realize her powerset is deliberately vague, but these stones were supposed to have survived since the Big Bang. I don’t buy that any individual being could destroy one because given their wanderings across the universe, some individual being would have already tried.

Her power set might be vague but it comes from the stone, the stone is powerful enough to destroy itself apparently.

If you put your mind to it, of course.

Right – this is why it had to be her to do it; IIRC, only she and her brother had survived Strucker’s experiments (as depicted in the beginning of Age of Ultron) to grant superpowers to people using the Mind Stone, and Pietro is, of course, now dead.

If it’s prepared.

Well we know that Thanos is stuck inside the Soul Stone, and I’m betting that all the other dead are in there too. The trick will be to get them out without releasing the Big T himself.

Didn’t all this go down in Thanos’ throne room? I seem to recall some steps leading up to a big chair. Unless I’m getting it confused with a later movie.

I don’t think the throne room appeared until Guardians of the Galaxy. Ronan, not Loki, was there with the Other and Thanos.

In the mid-credits scene of Avengers, we see the Other and Thanos, but by that time, Loki has been brought to prison in Asgard.

It’s possible that earlier Avengers scenes between the Other and Loki took place in Thanos’s presence, but there’s no clear evidence of it.

So nobody wants to speculate on what would have happened had either the villains of Thor: Ragnarok or Doctor Strange succeeded in their plans? Would that have put a crimp in Thanos’s style, or would he have ended up making their victories pyrrhic?

I agree with you on the merits of the argument, but I still know a lot of people who are freaked out about overpopulation.

But that’s the best one! Everyone I know who likes MCU movies at all agrees on that point, and then we start diverging sharply after that.

 How do we know this?

Could the Mind stone make a burrito so large that the Mind stone couldn’t eat it?

I don’t think Thanos is inside the Soul Stone. When we see him talking to young Gamora towards the end, it’s all glowy orange around them, just like the Stone, but when he’s chillin’ on his little farm, it looks like any Earth like world, all blues and greens. Heck, except for the big moon, it could well be Earth.

We know he was inside the stone. Now, who knows? Ditto everybody dusted. Gamora is inside, but the rest is uncertain.

In the opening scene of the Avengers, someone hands Loki the scepter. It doesn’t appear to be the Other, since the someone has only one thumb on each hand, not 2 thumbs like the Other. This occurs on the asteroid base.

Later, when Loki is meditating & goes to the asteroid, he’s talking to the Other, but clearly knows the Other is working for someone else - the Other says:

“You question us? You question HIM? He, who put the scepter in your hand, who gave you ancient knowledge and new purpose when you were cast out, defeated?”

During this, Loki is looking up the stairs that we later learn lead to Thanos’ throne room. It looks to be pretty much the same throne room as in GotG - on an asteroid in an asteroid field. It’s not the same throne room in Infinity War, which is on a ship.

Later in the scene, the Other warns Loki:

“You will have your war, Asgardian. If you fail, if the Tesseract is kept from us, there will be no realm, no barren moon, no crevice where he can’t find you. You think you know pain? He will make you long for something as sweet as pain.”

Obviously, the Other is referring to Thanos in those speeches. It seems very unlikely that Loki doesn’t know who his ultimate benefactor is, especially with the “put the scepter in your hand, who gave you ancient knowledge” part.

Too late to edit - Full scene of Loki & the Other.

Thanos is chillin’ it at the Banaue Rice Terraces.

Hey, that looks like one of the screensavers on my Apple TV!

I dunno, it was Rocket’s plan, the only way she could’ve balked would be to reveal her secret knowledge, plus as others pointed out, the plan was to be gone before thanos got there. She also told Quill at this point all roads lead to thanos, so the sooner the better.
