Info on obscure boxing promoter John Daly

This person was somehow supposed to hook up with Don King’s organization in the mid 1970s, where he was noted as a “co-promoter” (documentary movie “Muhammad Ali, The Greatest” (1969). I don’t know whether that was in reference to the “Rumble in the Jungle” or a planned Ali-Frazier III. He apparently was some British entrepreneur involved with something called “Helmdale Leisure,” (Norman Mailer’s book “The Fight”) but so far, that’s all I’ve been able to find?

Anyone???

My very well-documented Illustrated History of Boxing doesn’t have his name. However, Oliver Stone briefly mentioned Daly in an interview with Lawrence Grobel for a book on movies. Right here.

I’ll check into my other boxing books, but I don’t expect anything great.

Ah, I knew there was something wrong. It’s not “Helmdale”, but “Hemdale”. With that corrected, you get over 2000 hits in Google!

And it seems like if he was forgettable as a boxing promoter, he’s been pretty big in movies…

Thanks a bunch!
