Info Requested--Selling Books Online.

Normally, I sell my books via Amazon.

But I have several volumes that Amazon has never carried; hence, they don’t list the darn things, & you can’t sell em.

I DO NOT WISH TO USE E-BAY!!!

No E-bay!

I wanna sell, not auction, & I don’t like the things I’ve heard about rip-offs, & the e-bay folks not backing you up if you don’t get the item/don’t get paid.

Who can recommend a site?

Welllll…I was about to suggest half.com, which does not have a listing fee or auctions, but they are owned by eBay.

Other than that, hmm…I have never looked at CraigsList. Perhaps some bookselling could be done there?

Do you happen to have textbooks? FacultyBooks might be of help, in that case.

eBay has a non-auction “sell” option, but since you don’t want to use eBay, I won’t mention it.

There’s AbeBooks, which is pretty awesome, though I think they only allow really serious sellers to sign up.

I use http://seattle.craigslist.org/ all the time. You’ll just have to check that your city is listed.

I switched from Amazon to ABE (the Advanced Book Exchange at http://abebooks.com/) about a year ago and I’ve been thrilled. ABE is bigger than Amazon and sells more used books. There seem to be a lot more knowledgeable people there and fewer of the “list my hardback for a penny and lose a buck on shipping when I sell it” idiots. ABE tends to follow book trade standards for ratings, unlike Amazon, who made up their own system. They also have a database program you can load on your computer to manage your inventory, and detailed tracking and Web-based reports.

If you don’t like what you see at ABE for some reason, check out Alibris. It’s another one that predates Amazon and seems to do a good job. Their fees were a bit high for me last time I checked.

I have over 1,000 books listed on ABE and it works quite well for me.
