I believe you. I know many people who believe in demons and angels. Most Christians do, at least a little bit. My mom believes my homosexuality is caused by a demon. The belief in demons who prey - either physically, spiritually or mentally - on unsuspecting humans is one I find disturbing.
Dude, what else do demons do in any legend except prey on the unsuspecting human? I assume from this that it’s not the creature itself that bugs you, but rather that someone could actually believe that something that nefarious exists bodily and not just as a spirit? Aphids are oblivious of the ravenous lady bird that preys on them even while their neighbor is being quite noisily gobbled…not that being noisily gobbled is necessarily a bad thing, but I digress…why should it be disturbing if a human “aphid” gets a suspicion that perhaps we have lady birds in our midst?
Is it the condition of the mind that can believe this that bothers you? Or is the belief too far removed from your own and therefore disturbing? Or is it perhaps dangerous to start believing that humans are not spiritually homogenous (yet another excuse for persecution), but are instead a collection of biologically similar & compatible bodies which house completely different spiritual types of beings? Because I DO believe that last proposition. I’m not levelling an attack at you, I’m genuinely interested in why you (and presumably others) have a problem with he OP, and what that problem is specifically.
I’m a materialist. I don’t believe in demons, spirits and souls, except as metaphor. But it all comes down to physical reality. And there is no physical evidence for the existence of any of the above.
